Very good

Good, but not great...
This watch looks great - it's 'stealth' black look is mean, and a real fashion statement. As is the size. A 50mm width, and 15mm height ensures it will be noticed. However, the display is a double edged sword. The negative display keeps within the stealth mode, BUT it is impossible to read in low light conditions without the aid of the EL light. By low light, I mean indoors under domestic conditions (not bright office light), or outdoor in winter. Sunshine really pops the display into life. The functionality is superb, the atomic function ensures 'to the second' accuracy, and being solar means the watch will remain intact without costly battery replacements, and new gaskets to retain it's waterproof qualities. The resin strap is of good quality, and is supremely comfortable due in part to the 'wings' at either side of the lugs which hug your wrist.I have had mine for some months now, and have 'modded' it slightly by replacing the chrome buckle with a black one, removing the white writing around the bezel, and replacing the silver bezel rivets with black ones, and painting the 'G' on the light button black, all just to highlight the stealthiness of the design.I do love it, and it is almost a great watch, apart from the fact that you can't tell the time in poor light!!

Display is hard to read
I’ve had this for the past few years and it’s great watch in every way except two things are a pain. The negative display looks cool but it’s really hard to read most of the time and you spend more time moving your wrist to catch the right angle to read it, or have to illuminate it.The solar power indicator and hourly time signal are tooooo small to see half the time.Would I recommend buying one? No, get the normal version.

Great Casio Watch
In all this watch did not disappoint in any way. There are a few complexities with it but those are to be expected of a watch in this price range. I was looking for a watch to replace the G-Shock I lost a long time ago when I was 15. I had it for literally 6 years when it was ripped off my wrist while I was sailing. The strap was cut through and the watch dropped into the ocean. It is probably still sitting there telling the time as we speak...PROS-A great sturdy watch, rubber coated exterior bug rugged buttons thick straps metal clasp.-A great look, I could wear this with a polo and jeans or a nice suit if I really wanted to.It is a clean crisp rugged looking watch.-it is waterproof, shock resistant, and everything else you could possibly want.-IT IS SOLAR POWERED! Yes that is right solar powered. Say good bye to having a dead watch. That was the one thing I disliked about my original Casio so much; when it went dead it took me a week to get the battery replaced. No more!-The solar panels are well hidden, unless you are looking for them you will NOT find them. They are hidden into the design of the watch quite well.-I have had this thing for a few months now and can say with confidence it has never dipped below the HIGH charge mark. I don't even have to change the way I normally wear a watch either. It just seems to glean every bit of spare solar energy it can get and uses it all to charge the battery.-The manual is well written and flows easily from one function to anotherCONS-It is not bulletproof...but is likely bullet resistant knowing its construction.-The MANUAL...Dear sweet lord the manual is intense. It is the size of a small travelers bible that you can put easily in your pocket. And it is just about as thick as one if not thicker. This thing has more functionality than any other watch I have ever owned...while that isn't saying much if you plan on using ANY advanced functionality of this device you need to read the manual.-The display can be a bit challenging to read in the dark if you do not light the face up. Good news I found if you quickly twist your wrist like you want to read the time, when it is dark the face auto lights up for you. It does not however do this when it is bright enough to read the face during the day. it is almost like it has a light sensor in it and will only auto light up when there isn't enough light to read it alone.WRAP-UPAs far as the line of Casio watches goes this one was a good pick for me. I have a big arm and well a HUGE wrist; this watch fit perfectly and looks great. It is rugged enough for me not to have to worry about taking it hiking, biking, or accidentally hitting it against something while walking or running. They just don't make watches like this anymore...or I thought they didn't.

Classy and easy to read in good light
I had this watch prior to 2013 before losing it. It worked very well, and while I only had it a few years, I remember it performing well even in Saskatchewan, Canada where we don't get long daylight hours. Recently (2024), I repurchased this watch and it's exactly as I remember it.DISPLAY:This watch is classy and very easy to read in moderate to well lit areas. I've owned another Casio dark face watch with light grey digits, and it was incredibly difficult to see the display. This one is not the case. However, I will also add that the backlight illumination, while evenly lit, is fairly dim. The room needs to be somewhat to completely dark to see that the illuminator is activated. The light stays on for three seconds, and can be set to turn on every time the watch is tilted toward the user's face (I turn this feature OFF to save battery power). The layout of the display is quite pleasing. With the signal display and the date along the top third of the watch, Moon Phase (left side) and Tide indicator (center) along with a visual seconds gear wheel (right side) in the middle portion of the display, and time keeping along the bottom third of the watch, the display feels very well balanced. My only complaint is that the physical print on the watch face itself is so small that I need a magnifying glass to read it (print such as "SIG" and "ALM"). The digital indicators above this fine print are easier to see. The physical "P.SAVE", "CHG", and the battery level print on the watch face are all quite a bit easier to read, and again, the digital indicators above each are very easy to see.BATTERY:The battery indicators are"P.SAVE", "CHG", "L", "M", and "H". When I received the watch, it was on "M" and has almost always stayed there. I tried to charge the battery to "H" in the Sun, but with limited time outside due to working indoors, I didn't have any success. Instead, I tried using a bright LED flashlight (700 lumins) to see if it would charge. Initially, I had the light and the watch close enough together to almost be touching. WARNING - DO NOT DO THIS! The LCD became all black and no digits were visible. This corrected itself within a second or two. So now I use the flashlight at a small distance away from the watch. I was able to very briefly get the battery level to "H". I think bright Sunlight would be best, as long as the watch will not overheat! It's important to "feed" the watch plenty of light as often as possible.AUTO TIME UPDATE:Placing the watch on a chair near a North facing window has proven effective so far in the watch receiving signals each night. This feature is one of the main reasons I bought the watch.MOON AND TIDE:I bought this watch almost primarily for the Moon Phase display. It's handy knowing what the Moon phase is simply by looking at my wrist. The New Moon is a completely black Moon display, and as the phases progress, the black area gets smaller, and the light grey areas represent the illuminated portion of the Moon. It can be used to display BOTH NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN HEMISPHERES which is great news! The tide display is not useful to me personally.COMFORT:The watch feels great on my wrist and is not too large, unlike some watches which are ridiculously huge. It's definitely not too small either. It feels like a man's watch without drawing too much attention. I enjoy wearing it.CONCLUSION:If digital display watches with novelty functions is your thing, this watch may be for you. I didn't talk about the alarm, stopwatch, timer, world time, and other screens mainly because I don't use them often. Although I will admit that the Moon and Tide screen are nice, as it shows the Moon's day age. Over all, this is my all time favorite watch!
