This hugely popular comedy established Hugh Grant as Hollywood's favourite bumbling Brit and garnered Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Richard Curtis' screenplay. Shy Londoner Charles (Grant) meets American Carrie (Andie MacDowell) at a friend's wedding and enjoys a one-night stand with her. The next time they meet, again at a wedding, Carrie is accompanied by a rich fiancé, leaving Charles heartbroken. Nevermind, with another wedding on the horizon, there is still time for him to pitch his woo and win the love of his transatlantic sweetheart. The film spawned not only a hit single for Wet Wet Wet with 'Love Is All Around', but also a best-selling poetry anthology, inspired by an on-screen reading of W.H. Auden's 'Funeral Blues'. Review: The last truly funny film before Notting Hill - It is almost the new carry on team only slightly more sophisticated. There is hugh grant playing.... well Hugh Grant, I've never seen him act any different, Simon Callow is very funny as is Rowan Atkinson as ever. There are great support roles from the rest of the team, the lovely Kristin Scott Thomas, Charlotte Coleman, James Fleet and John Hannah. The plot is beautifully manufactured from 'Toffs' attending a never ending round of marriages, remember that phase of life?. Simon Callow's character is brilliant torturing Americans only to come to a tragic end. He is well supported by the ever reliable John Hannah who is then very moving and funny in his eulogy, a very difficult skill. The plot centres around Hugh Grant and his sister Charlotte Coleman (a sore loss) always being late. The sub plot is Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell as the boy meets girl, separates, meets again and separates terminally except it is not. That's only after the indecisive Hugh Grant has committed himself, or has he? Cryingly funny and cryingly sad it's a great film and truly funny. Oh, nearly forgot, there is a token American in the form of Andie MacDowell for the American market. Review: One for the collection! - I had never seen Four Weddings but had heard all the great stories people had to say about it. The thing that hooked me to finally getting around to buying this was when I heard it was written by the great Richard Curtis, the mind behind hits such as Love Actually, Blackadder and the Vicar of Dibley, I knew I had to get it. Must say though that I absolutely do NOT regret buying this. If you don't own it, especially if you haven't seen it then don't waste time! Buy it! The best things about the movie is is that it is a story for everybody and each actor brilliantly plays their characters. It'll have you rolling on the floor with laughter and also reaching for the tissues to dry away your tears. It is one of the ultimate classics that should be in everybody's collection. A definate favourite that will never get old!

One for your collection
This should be in everyone's collection even men like it, although they won't admit to it. Fantastic characters and one of the best opening lines ever. Old Floppy Hair (Hugh Grant)is brilliant with his usual stuttering, innocent persona and odd looking outfits. A brilliant cast of British actors all of which will have appeared in Casualty at some point. The only blip on the horizon is that Andi McDowell. What were they thinking? Can't act and certainly does not fit in with the rest of the film and indeed the other characters. Despite what the commercial says she certainly looks a sight lot older than everyone else and if I were Hugh I would have picked 'Duck Face'. Fortunately she does not spoil the film and you can easily fast forward the bits with her in and not miss anything vital or funny. The film revolves around Four Weddings and a Funeral, funnily enough and by far the Funeral is one of the best and most endearing scenes in the film. It certainly made a star of John Hannah (Sliding Doors, The Mummy and Casualty). if you ever have a full day of watching DVD's and stopping in bed, this is one to be included. Absolutely a 'feel good film'.

A brilliant film
Although I have watched this film on more than one occasion, I decided I would like my own DVD to enjoy whenever I choose. It is entertaining on so many level - very funny and touching story and well filmed. From the opening scenes, the energy that runs through is great and there are so many excellent performances from familiar actors. A must to add to your DVD library

British Romantic Gem
Four weddings And A Funeral follows a single man called Charlie (Hugh Grant) and his experiences of love at four weddings and then a funeral. Charlie is a womaniser until he meets the girl of his dreams (Andie Macdowell). The film also shows the relationships of his friends and ex lovers all around him. The movies greatness lies in its honesty towards human relationships and love. So many romantic films seem shallow and pathetic. This is the opposite. It shows and expresses so much more than meets the eye. One of the best films about love ever made.
