Works fine not on wrist...
I have been a user of the Withings wifi scales for a number of years and they are superb so I have been on the look out for an activity tracker to compliment them. About 18 months ago I gave the Nike Fuelband a try and whilst it's a nice bit of kit it is a little short on power, needing a daily recharge and a physical connection to one's pc for sync. The Pulse is a far better piece of cake it not only tracks steps/kcals/distance/sleep/heart rate/blood oxygen, it also lasts several days on a single charge and even more crucially to me, it uses a micro-usb charger (same as most android phones and the kindle)... all this combined with bluetooth sync to your iOS/android device pretty much makes it the definitive device of its class! As mentioned in other reviews, it needs to be kept away from water, but it is ideally used by being put in your pocket during the day and on the included wristband at night, personally i use the belt clip in pocket for a bit of extra protection as it is largly useless to clip to ones belt (a friend lost his within days).Having used this for a month now I feel I can recommend it. A great compliment to the scales and even without then a superb motivator that might well suit those who prefer not to wear a wrist device, and for those who do, well that's what the included strap is for.

Great features but very poor implementation and design
I had this for 1 day and decided to return it after only 4 hours the features are amazing it matches or exceeds all the other trackers on paper however...... when you get it there are a few deal breaking things that you need to see if you can live with1 it does not stay in the wristband withings state that you should use the clip or put it in your bag or pocket during the day but you should wear the wrist for sleep tracking but it isn't even good enough for that I put it on rolled over in bed to have a nap and it fell out2 the display is very bury/hazy now I realise it is not some crisp HD display but it definitely should not look like my bathroom mirror after a super hot bath3 it's not waterproof/resistant now this one is the kicker for a fitness tracker there is a open usb port on the side of the tracker and just inside is a moisture sensor which if you happen to sweat on will invalidate your warrantyI did also have trouble getting the pulse /of they are done at the same time by picking up the unit and placing a finger over a sensor but I never got a reading before the 3rd trySo while it's packed with features and reasonably priced if they just had put a tiny bit of quality control or improvement to the screen (I see from the questions that some are not cloudy)Made it at least water resistant proof would be idealAnd a wrists strap that worksAnd a tweak to the sensorAnd it would be a 5* productBut at the moment straps/clips that don't hold even for the lowest activity levels so you loose itHard to read screenAnd the worst no waterproofing and even worse if your device breaks they check a moisture sensor before deciding to helpNow this product says that it is good for running everyone sweats when they run so that is a massive design hole and there is zero information provided about this with the device so beware before purchasing there are waterproof / resistant trackers out there

Interesting but compromised device
Tricky item to review. The step counter works well, and does not appear to be as inaccurate as some. The sleep monitor is interesting but not especially accurate, recording me as asleep when I sadly knew I was awake. The software could show periods of deep and light sleep and sum up total hours, but no insight into quality of sleep. As the sensors are in a black box, which needs to be slotted into either a comfortable watch strap or on a belt holder, it cannot be permanently held against skin so the heart rate monitor and oxygen measurements are a nuisance to take as they need to be removed from their holder to place the sensor onto fingertip. Interesting data, but no real insight from the withings software as to what it means. Collecting data without insight is pointless so unless the software is improved there is no point in having this facility.Interesting device, but maybe too compromised by software which provides totals but no analysis to fully live up to its promise which is a shame. For insight need to look elsewhere. However it is sold as an activity tracker, so in that sense it does what it says on the tin!
