Is this 'ground wood' or a type of extraction from the wood and transformed in powder format?

My research says it’s a tropical vine.

Hi does the flavor get covered up in a smoothie? Thanks so much!

Yes, it does. I usually have a smoothie with either some or all of the following - cocoa, coffee, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, maca powder, turmeric, cinnamon - and cannot taste the cats claw. If I make a matcha tea smoothie without the above, the taste of cats claw is a more dominant flavor.

Is the powder made only from the inner bark?

It's says it is and it really does what it's supposed to do which is sooth the inflammation, continuously.
