Compact external drive works well with my laptop. Easy to use. Just plugs into a USB slot. Works straightaway and no software has to be loaded on 8to the computer.

I want to start by saying I've only used this drive with an M1 MacBook Air, I've not tried it on a PC or other OS. I bought it to rip my audio CD collection, and at first I had some issues with the discs not auto-mounting. I had to go into Disk Utility and manually mount the CD, then it worked fine. However after a reboot and a few hours use, it magically started working correctly, so I'm going to put that down to an issue with MacOS more than with this drive. It's something to keep in mind if you don't see your disc being mounted on the desktop though. Then build quality feels a little cheap, the drive is very light and a bit bulky thanks to the built-in USB hub. It seems like it's put together fine, it's just not a premium feeling device. Also, the hub and card reader on the back are quite slow, so not something I would use, except in an emergency. This drive has an attached cable with USB-C and USB-A connectors, which is quite convenient, especially if you just want to travel with it. No extra cables or power supplies required. However, the cable is only about 20cm at full stretch, which means it might not work well as a permanent part of a desktop setup, as it's going to have to sit right next to your computer. Those minor niggles aside, I had no other problems when using this. It read CDs, DVDs and CD-Rs just fine. I've not tried the Lightscribe functionality or writing disks yet, so I can't vouch for those features. Overall, it feels a little cheap, but it gets the job done and it's good value.

I wanted to use this optical drive to connect to a Windows 11 desktop which doesn’t have a drive built-in. It works fine but there are a couple of things to note; 1. The built in USB (A) / (C) cable is fairly short so I had to place the drive on top of the desktop tower. 2. The discs often don’t eject properly and I’ve had to ease the disk tray open manually using a flat screwdriver or paperclip. Overall, it does what I bought it to do but it’s not faultless.

Just as described, simply plug and play. I tried another before this with massive probles, so well pleased.

My original review for the device, received on 31st July 2025 was 4 star - it was immediately put to work, no issues straight from the box ripping my own CDs to my digital network...sadly two months, and 170 rips later, and the driver has stopped working. I've contacted the supplier using their warranty instructions but that seemed to reach an impasse as they wanted me to send screen shots showing the screen from a PC showing the connection, and I can't do that as the brick is suffering a loss of power which means it'll never identify on the PC. The problem is either the USB-C connector/cable or the electronics within the box... nothing that I could fix without external help...so I dropped to a single star as I was thinking I'd have to source my own solution... I've now updated my review again as they've finally understood my predicament and told me a replacement is in the post...if that arrives and is as good as the original then I'll go back to four stars BUT my advice is to proceed with caution...just in case Good as their word the company sent me a replacement which went straight to work on my Surface Pro to record CD's from my collection into my digital store...lets hope this one doesn't give up the ghost in a couple of months time (its 17/10/25 today)....
