Will this tool work for stainless steel frets?

Yes. It will just take more elbow grease on your end, and wear out the tool faster

Will it work on low narrow frets on mandolins

Hello Richard, Depending on how narrow your mandolin frets are, this may not be the ideal file for that application. Do you know how wide the frets actually are? The sweet spot for the narrow side of this file is around .080" to .095" + or so. The good news is we have a smaller version of this file in the works.

How long should it last? I've used my 2.0 on about 25-50 necks and it seems dull.

25 to 50 necks? Then It paid for itself eons ago. I've only done 2 necks so far. If it's like my other files then it should last a lifetime. That is, if you keep it clean at all times with a brass brush and chalk. And store it in a dry place. Hope I get 50 necks out it. I'll be doin a stainless fret job soon. True test on that one,

Touch Up, Reshape, Guitar Fret Repair Tool

Another tool in the box! Easy to use for fret shaping. Probably essential for fret shaping. Works quickly, handy to work with and easy to use for contouring fret edges before filing. Glad to have found this tool. It’s not the ‘end all’ for fret work but it’s a tool to be used in combination with other fret shaping and filing tools to optimize the finish and size and shape of worn, tarnished, rough edged guitar frets. After shaping with the FretGuru, it was simply moving on to the fret finishing and polishing. Good fit in hand, good value, easy to use, comfortable grip, as accurate as you are using tools.
