Nescafé Blend 37 Instant Coffee Tin 500G

We all have to watch the pennies, especially now and coffee has never been exactly cheap. If you're an adult of a certain age, you will have tried literally all the instants available, hoping to find the best mix of taste and value. I've always thought Nescafe as a brand overrated, at least for the price. The 'Original' has the strength but is bitter, especially when made stronger and Gold Blend is smooth but rather tasteless. Only their Alta Rica ever satisfied my instant taste buds, but that's silly money. One I did quite like, though and which was marketed as a slightly superior, premium blend, was this, one '37'. Darker, smoother with slight but pleasant biscuity after-tastes, making it with 1.5 teaspoons in a mug makes for a strong yet satisfying coffee. I didn't/don't buy Blend 37 in supermarkets as it's still quite expensive and is generally only available in 100g jars, making it more so. It's not often in offers, either, so I had been buying Sainsburys Gold in 500g tins, for £5.99, this being a good, if unexceptional coffee, but quite drinkable. Then, in their 'wisdom', they removed those and only sold 100g & 200g jars, the latter being £2.99 was excellent value. As I rarely shop in their stores, I got fed up of it always being out of stock when I went in. "It's very popular" is all they could say. So, when doing my sums and bearing in mind that the Tesco 'Gold' 500g tin I'm just finishing off tasted as boring as boring could be, I was intrigued by Amazon's coffee 'subscription', which in effect gives you 10% off, making this Blend 37 £2.70 per 100g. Tesco's current price (at time of writing) is £3.38 per 100g jar and whilst this is still more than I'd normally pay, I've got it at 2 monthly intervals, which helps spread the cost. I can always add cheaper brands to pad it out and whilst the 280 cups quoted by Amazon is going to be more like 200 mugs, less if you add a little extra for strength, but that's still over 3 mugs per day, over the two months and if you live on your own, that's quite realistic. If I don't like the deal, I can unsubscribe at any time, or alter the frequency. The tins are post free, come in card boxes and I understand that the price is guaranteed. My first came within 3 days. Now, that's a tasty coffee with an even tastier deal.

I have bought Blend 37 for over 20 years and have never found a coffee to compare with its taste. They used to have 'Continental Blend' in the title so I have tried other continental styles but usually gave the jar away to a friend after my first taste! Recently it has been harder to get hold of so I tend to buy it several jars at a time so I don't run out and I am always worrying that it will disappear from the shelves altogether, so you can imagine how delighted I was to find it on Amazon at a reasonable price(even cheaper if you subscribe to regular deliveries). I am so particular about this brand that I even take some with me if I am going to a friends for a cuppa and I love it best with coffee mate. I have even just requested a cup of hot water in cafes and tipped in my premeasured portion from a little container in my pocket haha but this coffee is so good it really does make you THAT choosy!

Shops are stopping stocking this brand of coffee. Imagine how delighted I was to find Blend 37 here on Amazon. This product arrived well within the stated time and very well packaged. 10 out of 10 for ProPharm. WHAT'S THE COFFEE LIKE? All I can say is "Try it." It is a bit like Gold Blend, except not just so bitter. We had a party at home one evening. Eight guests, for a meal and some light refreshment. After the meal, I prepared the coffee. Eight guests ... 2 spoonfulls of Blend 37 per guest. (If you drink coffee from most coffee houses, then it is quite strong to very strong.) Everyone drank their coffee and NO complaints. I always say, "Bad coffee, you notice every mouthful. Good coffee, you don't even notice you've drunk it."

I have a regular order for 500g tins of Blend 37, which has gradually vanished from the shops in my vicinity. Certainly wasn't looking forward to the arrival of my first tin of the changed formulation on the basis of all that's been said here: simple mental arithmetic told me this has been my staple instant coffee for, wouldn't you know, 37 years. I never care for milk in coffee but the vast majority of instants need it to make them at all palatable to me. Well, it has changed, and I'd agree that it's changed for the worse. Less full and rich, with a slight acrid, oily edge to it that wasn't there before, would be this layman's verdict on what's happened. Having said that, it's still a coffee I can relish without milk, and while it's not quite what it was I expect I'll carry on as I have for the last decade or two on the coffee front, drinking mainly this with an occasional jar of Alta Rica and a much more occasional jar of any alternative that seems worth trying but almost always turns out not to be. My previous tin wasn't finished when the new one came, but curiosity demanded to be satisfied and so I'm currently using either as the mood takes me, and the difference isn't, to me, overwhelming. In fact, I think Blend 37 has undergone changes of a similar magnitude at least once or twice before in the course of 37 years, but back in those internet-free days I'd just have, hmm, swallowed the difference, thinking it perhaps down to a rainy or a dry growing season or a change of taster or a rogue jar, and quietly carried on with all the other things involved in living. Which is just what I propose to do now, after sharing these few thoughts with, particularly, anyone who may have landed here and be wondering whether to give up on the altered Blend 37 before trying it. My counsel would be at least to give it a chance, in view of the few plausible alternatives there are for when you're not minded to use the old Cona machine or whatever may be your instrument of choice for providing a more serious cup of coffee.

Just as several other reviewers have already commented, the best instant coffee is becoming harder and harder to find away from the Supermarket. At this price, it represents a great deal, even allowing for the lenghty delivery timeframe, probably because Amazon needs to build up an order volume - frankly, I don't care since " good things come to those who wait" WELL DONE AMAZON FOR PLUGGING THE GAP! For customers who have not triedContinental Blend before, it's the closest thing to filter coffee you can buy: chocolate and caramel notes with a ,slight citru twist. Lovely black, for after-dinner, with milk as a regular cup, or cream for an indulgent treat. Please do try it- you wont be disappointed!

Blend 37 by Nescafe has to be the nicest coffee ever made. I have drunk it for years, its smooth and strong without any bitterness. Its hard to come by these days in the supermarkets. Only Tesco seem to stock it. It's probably a little more expensive than your everyday coffee, but you get what you pay for in life and this is worth the extra. However now buying it from Amazon on a subscription it's working out a lot cheaper. I recommend you give it a try

I've always loved Blend 37 but I guess it's not that popular so it's increasingly hard to find in UK supermarkets and when I do find it, it's usually in small and very expensive jars. When I found out a few years ago I could buy it in bulk on a subscription basis from Amazon, that changed everything and it's better value for money too. I now get 3 or 4 500g tins delivered every quarter.

What happened to Blend 37 Coffee?It no longer has the good robust flavour it once had.Does anyone know if there is another coffee (either ground or instant) that I can use instead.?

Initially it felt mild but when I made beat coffee, it was like a smooth filter coffee. It is a great coffee, recommended.

I usually like my coffee to be strong and the taste to linger for sometime. I usually use Davidoff espresso which is strong and gives a lot of kick for a busy day. I will not say Nescafe Blend 37 is as strong as Davidoff espresso but it had a slightly mild after taste and certainly nice aroma and much more strong than the usual Nescafe gold. Good with both black and with added milk. Go for it if you need a change in flavour of your coffee.

I’ve now added this to the list of blends I LOVE. Others at my home, who wouldn’t move away from the likes of sunrise and similar, too loved the taste.
