My main camera is an R6 mk II, and I chose the R8 because it has the same sensor/AF system/video features. It is, in many ways, the same internally. Not ENTIRELY the same, but close enough in so many that I think it's perfect for two people: First, like me, you have an R6 mk II and love it, but want a second/b-roll/backup camera body. This will produce the same image quality/video files, and even do as well(or nearly) for fast action, birds in flight, etc. Second, you really like what the R6 line brings to the table, but you aren't sure you want to spend that much money. Especially it you look for deals, refurb/renewed, etc. you can get an R8 and a good lens for about that the R6 mk II body costs. For example, I just bought this and the RF 100-400/5.6-8 and it was almost the exact same price. The cons(as far as I'm concerned): Only one SD card slot, so any card failures/corruption/etc. could be bad news Smaller battery(the only thing that REALLY bugs me is needing two different types of battery for my bodies) No IBIS, meaning stabilized lenses are even more important, especially for hand-held video Other than that, I think it's fantastic, and the first two are likely to not feel like a big deal to a lot of people. The sensor if great, the image quality is great, the AF is great, and it's even weather resistant(although perhaps not to the levels of the higher priced bodies)

This wasn't my first choice when I upgraded from a DSLR, but it quickly became the best decision I ever made. Everyone told me "get an R6, get an R6" but I couldn't even find a used one for cheap when I went looking. Then I saw a review of the R8. Nearly the exact same camera, minus one SD slot, and about $600 cheaper? NEW? Yes please! I love it. The ISO range is amazing. Low light is not a problem at all. And I've not had any issues with noise or color beyond what I would expect in extreme lighting conditions. It's superb. Might not be as durable as the R6, but I keep this one in my studio anyway, and take the old DSLR into the field. What can I say? I don't yet feel brave enough to take a camera that costs half as much as a used car out where it might get dirty. I have gear anxiety that way. It is a great camera. All the features you want are here. Overexposure warning, focus highlighting, super smart auto focus, and customizable button functions. Video is impressive on it too, or so I hear. I don't use it for video, I'm a stills man. Just being honest. Can't say enough about how much I am enjoying this camera. Its easy to use, doesn't weigh a ton, and gets great shots even in less than great conditions. A great choice if you want to shoot pro quality, but still suffer from amateur budget.

The Canon R8 amazed me from the first use. The image quality is impressive: true-to-life colors, great dynamic range, and excellent low-light performance. The autofocus is lightning fast and very precise, ideal for car photography and portraits. It also records video in incredible quality, with excellent stabilization and smooth focus. It's lightweight, easy to handle, and perfect for taking on any shoot. Without a doubt, one of the best purchases I've ever made; I recommend it 100%.

This is my first full frame camera and I really enjoy it. In this price point, there is very little not to like. I l love the image quality, the grip, and the battery life is pretty good. However, I do recommend a back up camera. Additionally, when you are out shooting in the sun, it will eventually overheat. I have traveled all over the world with that camera paired with the rf 24-105 mm, 28-70mm and recently the rf45 mm. I mostly shoot architecture and landscape and it has been amazing. Performance at night can be challenging So I will recommend pairing with a flash to avoid high levels of noise. Overall great solid camera

WOW, this is an excellent camera from Canon. I have not bought a new camera in several years and am completely amazed at the tech that is packed into the R8. Picture quality and autofocus is OUTSTANDING. OK so the price is not everyones idea of a budget/cheap camera but this isn't designed to be cheap I don't think. I watched almost all the reviews online for this camera in this price range and always kept coming back th this. Part of my reasons for this is because I do have some older EF lenses from Canon that work with an adapter. They work completely properly by the way, so that was a great saving. Image quality is simply outstanding. Check out the reviews from Jared Polin on the tubes of you to see what I'm talking about. I use mine mostly in my home studio and it's currently behind a teleprompter. I'm looking forward to getting it out into the outdoors for some actual photography in the near future. I know the results will be excellent. Mostly so far, I have been using it for mainly video which again has been simply outstanding. For the studio i use the OEM power adapter so the battery and its life are not destroyed over a shorter time. I hear it does well though considering. So, in summary... It's Full Frame, as top of the line FAST intelligent auto focus, touch screen and 4K with HDR capability. Is it professional? Probably not? Can you get professional results with this camera? ABSOLUTELY

Love it. It's been my main camera for sports photography, portraits, and events. Focuses super quickly and holds it well, has a ton of options for those so inclined, and with an adapter, it can use all your EF lenses. It's on the small side, which makes it easy to carry all day. The only two issues are 1) 1he battery life is not great with the tiny batteries it uses. So buy a few if you plan on having long shoots (and turn on airplane mode, which helps). And 2) It has only one memory card slot, which might be a consideration if you're doing paid work. Other than that, it's a joy to use.

I bought the Canon R50 because I was somewhat new to photography and I didn’t want to spend tons of money at first. I love that camera and would recommend it to anyone, but the R8 absolutely destroys it when it comes to taking pictures in low light conditions. With the R50, I was getting a lot of noise with the ISO at 6400. With the R8, I’m getting really sharp images even when the ISO gets up to 12800. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a crop sensor camera again for this reason alone. The R8 is a must have for anyone wanting to take pictures in low light and doesn’t have thousands of dollars to spend. I bought the RF 24-240MM lens to go with it and it’s killer. It’s a heavier setup for sure, but a very versatile lens. I’m also glad I will be able to shoot video in 4K 60fps now. I heard the R8 overheats around the half hour mark, but most people don’t record video for that long anyway. The image quality is awesome. This is just a great camera for anyone. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you buy it. Hope this helps!
