You won't have just one rat. Keep baiting all the while that they are taking it. Always use a bait box. Keep unopened bags secure. Don't expect to see dead rats - they don't hang around in the open and are unlikely to die where you can see them.

How long does it take for the poison to work

My mice only took Raco, and that took ages. I found an electric sound emmitter appeared to work, but tried so many poisons and traps, My mice were very well educated, read all the labels and avoided most.
