Review: great book - great book for english lit nea Review: Astonishing collection of poems - Plath is one of my favourite poets. I have idolised her and her work since I was a teenager. Excuse me with I have a fan-girl moment. Plath made me want to write poetry. Ariel, her last hurrah is an amazing collection of poetry. It contains some of her best work and some of my favourite pieces. I love how diverse the poems are in Ariel, the perfect blend of light and dark. The poems are rich in detail, vivid and at times, haunting. I loved all of the poems but my favourites were The Applicant, Lady Lazarus, Cut, Death & Co and Daddy. Of these Daddy is the best. Daddy may be one of the best poems ever written.

Astonishing collection of poems
Plath is one of my favourite poets. I have idolised her and her work since I was a teenager. Excuse me with I have a fan-girl moment. Plath made me want to write poetry. One of the most influential female writings.
Honestly Plath is one of the best writers because she conveys every emotion with realism but makes it artistic. I think Ariel is a must read for any women entering adulthood.

Powerful
Beautiful and haunting but there are surprising moments of joy and hope. Apparently it was meant to end with the ‘wintering’ triology until Ted rearranged it. Overall it is just essential poetry for anyone vaguely interested into the subject. She was brilliant and unique and unrivalled.

NO Frieda Intro and it's Hughes' Arrangement.
The poems are obviously amazing, of that there can be no doubt. But this listing mistakenly leads the buyer into believing that the edition contains an introduction by her daughter Frieda, but there is no intro by her, or anyone for that matter. Also, the arrangement of the poems is the same as Ted Hughes's original publication, not the revised order as published elsewhere WITH an intro from her daughter, something that could be an issue for many Plath fans.

Powerful and Haunting
I had never read this collection the whole way through, but then I saw a documentary on Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath so I decided to by a copy. This edition is a beautifully designed hardback. It is very sad reading these poems with the knowledge of what was to come for Plath, but she is a very powerful and haunting writer. Definitely a poetry collection to put on your to-read list if you haven't read them already.

Sylvia lives immortally in her words. Reading Ariel was such an immersive experience. It is brutally mundane, raw, destructive, and eloquent. I won’t claim that all the poems are likeable or enjoyable, because they aren’t, but that’s what juxtaposes against the ones which are great even more greatly. After reading Plath’s poetry and swimming in the depth of her words, all I have realised is that Sylvia’s in a league of her own. There’s no comparison between her and any other poet or poetess. If poets and poetesses write in the genre of “poetry,” Sylvia has invented her own genre. Her words remind me of daggers and feathers. I don’t know what virtues we humans in the 21st century have committed to be deserving of reading words left away by Sylvia Plath. If a person isn’t ready to acknowledge or confront their hidden demons, they should not make a commitment to read this book until they are ready. It is one of the books which you spend even your last breath recovering from.
