In this collection of 13 classic fables, Michael Rosen passes on the wisdom of Aesop in a unique and appealing way. Modern, humorous retellings of such favourites as ''Town Mouse & Country Mouse'', ''The Fox & the Crow'' and ''The Frog & the Bull'' are accompanied with magnificent artistry by Talleen Hacikyan. Aesop''s Fables is a beautifully presented collection from one of Britain''s best-loved storytellers, Michael Rosen. Review: Timeless Classic which every Child must have! - We purchased this as an add-on for my son's 6th Birthday and I can tell you without any doubt that this is an essential addition for every family! Classic tales, beautiful illustrations and a wonderfully bound book all add up to one thing: Quality time with your child/children! This captured my son's imagination from the get-go and after each story ending with "The moral of this story is..." we had a discussion about it and he had lots of questions too which is an obvious sign that he was actually listening to the story, as opposed to delaying bedtime ;-) On a serious note, a really fantastic book which every child must have read to them!! Review: A beautiful book. - A beautiful book. Bought for a seven year old who loves Greek mythology. The pictures are just beautiful and the text is accessible for a child learning to read. All the classic fables included.

Fabulous!
The illustrations are so striking and beautiful that you might be tempted to buy the book just for them. The dark background of the pictures makes them look mysterious and a little scary too. The animals are beautifully stylised in bright colours. You can guess a lot of each story simply by looking at its illustration. The retelling of these fables is not as good as I expected from Michael Rosen and the text doesn't roll off the tongue easily when you read it aloud. That being said, the stories are well adapted for children. They remain short and simple and they use language familiar to them, with, for good measure, a few more difficult expressions. The best bit, you'ill find, is your child's version of the moral for these stories.

Lovely book and great pictures
I loved this book as a child so I was keen to keep up the tradition with my daughter. Sheโs a little young to understand the stories but she loves the pictures. The morals and fables stand the test of time and Iโm looking forward to reading them all again when she is older. I would really recommend this book.

Lovely collection
Beautiful pictures and well presented. I bought this for teaching fables to Year 3. I really liked that the moral for each fable is clearly presented underneath the fable. I will probably pass it on to my daughter to enjoy with her as she grows up.

Wonderful book, with great illustrations and moral stories. Each fable has been written in a short way that will keep your young one's attention, they're even ended with a note describing the moral of the story.

Son loves it!
My 8-year old son got a poor copied book of Aesop's Fables from his teacher (last year). I finally had enough of seeing it laying around and we tossed it. I bought this to replace it but kept it secret until Christmas. When he opened it he jumped into my arms telling me "Thank you!" He seems to be able to relate well with the moral in these short stories and loves looking at the pictures.

Interesting pictures
This book is interesting to read theough. Some of the stories are explained really well. But some we found are a little blunt. But this is good for younger readers.

Mike Rosen didn't lose any of the core of each fable.
Nice version of Aesop's and indeed the illustrations are brilliant! That said, I'm slightly sad that writers sense a demand for dumbing down the writing, although Mike Rosen didn't lose any of the core of each fable.

Terrific version of Aesops
I love the illustrations and the way the stories fit neatly within a page.I used the book to introduce my daughter to Aesops. After a while, I am not sure who loves the book more, her or me.
