First time trying basil extract and we were skeptical about the taste. But after reading the good reviews, decided to give it a chance. My wife made salsa and tried a few drops of this in it - what a delightful difference! A little goes a long way and we enjoyed the fresh basil flavor without having to upkeep a basil plant or buy overpriced clippings in the store. Definitely recommend for adding to the home chef's spice repertoire. Another benefit is not having to refrigerate it and it still remains fresh. We would buy this again - excellent bang for the buck.

I'm not really sure what this actually even is, or if it's even edible. It is a thick, black, goopy and sticky mess of a product that barely draws up into the dropper and oozes over the lip of the bottle as soon as you open it. If I didn't smell or taste it I'd think it was an oil spill in a tiny bottle! Not sure why I tasted it to be honest because everything about it is extremely off-putting. It smells and tastes exactly like very potent anise or black licorice, which is not exactly what you're aiming for when purchasing basil extract. My product's packaging was damaged due to poor packing/handling by Amazon, but that didn't make this item unpalatable and just plain gross. I wanted basil extract mostly for gin cocktails, so I just reverted to the tried and true method... muddle or blend it from fresh leaves. Don't buy this hoping for a shortcut, just eww.

Wish I had read JBF review before buying, had exactly the same experience, produce box was open and damaged on arrival, produce is a think black goop. Taste nothing of basil, it’s not edible at all. And product is not returnable. Very disappointing DO NOT BUY !

This is disgusting. It’s black oily sticky goo—not drops, not liquid. Flavor just taste like rotted chemicals—no basil. Like it was boiled down to goo in a pan and then left to mold. It’s well within the production/expiration date, so I can only assume this is just how the product is.

This does not taste like basil at all! It gives black licorice. After reading other reviews, I see this is not uncommon and not unique to the basil flavor. Fail!

This product is the Worst thing I have ever tasted. It does not taste like basil at all. You are dreaming if you think this has any flavor like basil. Do Not Buy This Product

This does not taste like authentic basil, does not taste well when mixed with tea. It may taste better when taken along with ginger for relieving cold.
