The EQ Leader: Instilling Passion, Creating Shared Goals, and Building Meaningful Organizations through Emotional Intelligence

Having just started Dr Steve Stein's latest book I'm already hugely impressed! After just one chapter I wanted to endorse the depth and clarity for what looks like a very well informed and researched read. I look forward to adding more comments as I go. Just to get you started though: "In a recent report, the Deloitte Global Human Capital Survey (2014) questioned more than 2,532 leaders in 94 countries and found that the biggest workforce 'readiness gap' was leadership. Over 38 percent of respondents rated this issue as 'urgent' for their organisations (86% rated it as either important or urgent) - more than 50% higher than the next identified gap - retention and engagement. Interesting, these two issues are quite closely tied together."

I find the book really useful and forces me to reflect on my own leadership and where to focus to develop. I can’t help but think this book is also an advert for the EQi test and their services though. It’s mentioned as a good option every chapter.

At the outset, Stein identifies three types of books that you might find on the topic of leadership: 1) Leader's view; 2) Observer's view; and 3) Researcher's view. This falls largely into the third camp. The EQ Leader provides a brief history of IQ and EQ, describes what EQ tests measure and how predictive they can be, and then goes into detail on the various components of EQ testing, alluding to the data of hundreds of studies run around the globe. This is an interesting book and the data Stein pulls is very compelling. Keeping in mind that IQ is nearly impossible to improve, but that EQ is dynamic, there are helpful tips in here for people keen on becoming more empathetic, more self-aware, more self-actualized, etc., leaders.

Now I read this book, it became one of MY referencing tool, during my coaching, my trainings and my missions in Human Resources... A great book that speaks about emotional intelligence so clearly, so efficiently and so humanely in its whole approach. This book is a deep self-learning ! Thanks so much Steven J. Stein. Whether you are team leaders or corporate leadership, you need to keep such a book around. It is a must have and read book that can help making or creating impacts in your company. The cover explains it all; and inside, it is a source of extensive knowledge. Great Work!

Lots of good information and goes way in depth on how the authors derived it with real life examples of implementation. Most summaries however didn’t fully capture all the data the authors had in each chapter.
