Will this track over 24hrs?

Yes. However, you might need to provide power to the tracker depending on how regularly it is taking a measurement. I've used the tracker for long periods, but I've plugged it into a USB power pack to recharge it whilst it's still running. The log rate is configurable and decreasing the sampling rate will increase the duration it can run for. On a single charge recording at 1 Hz, I get ~18 hours use before the battery runs out. With recharging I've run for 48+ h continuously.

A couple of people have said this device hasn't worked since the gps rollover date (5th april 2019). is there a software update to rectify this?

There was a newer version of the software released (1.1.09) which is fixed for the GPS rollover. You should be able to locate this from a web search.
