Call Assistant SD Digital Phone Call Recorder Landline Recording Device, Stand Alone Desktop Unit

The unit works great and is fairly intuitive in its operation if you have worked with other consumer digital equipment products. I have had it for several months and it works perfectly fine...much better than expected. I chose this rating because I bought a similar recorder an e-bay vendor named Yi Tuo Electronics CO.,Limited , who is DBA windows5. The unit they sent me was much less expensive but still costly. It came with a 220 volt power supply (not advertised as such) and then when I dug up the correct power supply the unit would not work. They said 2 times that they SENT replacement unit and it has been 6 months now with nothing to show. The KILLER is to send their unit back, which they wanted for a refund, it costs $45, $6 more than I paid for the unit. EBAY says work it out with the seller and after all this happened (as going along with their policy) when I finally realized they were not sending a replacement it was too late for ebay buyer protection. I am writing these details so you understand the risk that if you are sent junk by trying to save some money like I did for this item, you have no recourse and should be aware of the risks.

Even though this device arrived with NO instruction manual and the only software provided was on a mini-cd (so I couldn't load it onto my Macbook or actually any other computer I have in the house.) I managed to set it up and get it working. I have it attached to a landline phone that is cordless. The sound quality is pretty good, but not crystal clear. It will have to do, as I don't want to spend $450 on a much higher-end device.

Updated: Year after purchase: Was 4 stars, now 1. When works it is great. Problem is that it will randomly lock up without any warning, reason, or notification resulting in calls not being recorded which completely destroys its value. Fortunately I also purchased the Asurion 2yr protection and will hopefully be able to get replaced for one that will not lock up and will continually work. At first I thought it might have been power outages being the lose of power because I have a whole house surge protector and the unit is on a surge protector as well. So I put in batteries, have it plugged in, and it's plugged in to a UPS as well. But it still locks up randomly. My last straw is that I needed to get a call recording from last week and went to retrieve it and the unit had been locked up so the call did not record. So although this is virtually the only one out there, I would go with the other one.

Hello; I like the unit in general but there are a few shortcomings such as (1) the info on the website and booklet / instructions - Do Not tell you if the device is plugged into the USB cable; phone calls can Not be recorded ! (2) No specifics on the type of microphone you need to be compatible for using the record function - DB gain, tpe like dynamic, etc. (3) to shut off the damn beeping if the batteries in the device are weak / must be replaced (4) the steps to program the unit vs. which buttons do not always work right ?? In general the unit does well with recordings and the telco connections are straightforward and its size is easy to hide. The Call Assistant software is plain jane & simple but you get a lot of file errors and so far I have found no way to recover calls that have a file error. I have caller ID w/ name & most of the numbers that show up on caller ID Do Not show up with the phone number, so knowing which call you are listening to or want to find it is very difficult. Your software needs a column that always lists the phone number and in the next column; you can make a note to ID what call is it for easier listening, etc. I like the device otherwise and the software, so I am not downing it but changes need to be made considering less expensive recorders/software and PC based systems have a better call ID & documentation. At $ 300.00 plus the software, this is expecting too much; its all about reasonable easy of use / functionality. Thank you.

i bought it last year septmber the thing work okay the sound quality was left to be desired on the recording of the other in comming person and it has now died only after one year of use i would say was not worth the price i paid for it. one year and dead aint cool for 160 bucks did it record and work well i guess but on the whole i boght a snoy voice recorder that was 40 bucks and has higher record quality to it which is sad.

I'm impress with this product, it is small so it fits everywhere , the recorded data are clear easy to check from the device it self or from a computer. The software is so easy to install it let manage the data in so many ways, you can listen to rhe records from the equipment, mark a call, delete, change language, check caller ID or the dialed number, I tested it with a land line, with an internet line and also with a Panasonic Keysystem it Works well every time. The software manager alows to listen to the data in your computer, also you can save the data in the original format XTR or in WAV, also you can email the data in the original format or in Wav. You can listen to all the calls or sort them by date or period of time. Also mark the calls or put a title to identified them. If you remove te SD card there is an alarm to alert.

This is the second one I am getting. Both of us work out of the house and have two different land lines and need this device to go over important con-calls which contain project info that;s hard to take notes of while various people speaking. Nevertheless, why the three stars: the second one just arrived. It was lacking the following items: no SD card, no batteries and no CD. I wrote to the seller via amazon, let;s see what happens. If they fix this, I will up it to five stars because this is a great product. I do have one issue, some have reported a buzz in the recording, it happens to me also. I will call their support line. Maybe it has to do with my land line splitter? I use a two dedicated land line splitter on one wall jack. No buzz while speaking on any of the two phone devices, just from when the recorder records the calls and I play them back using its software. I ll report back. Finally, I expected bad call player software, on the contrary. This is great software. Very easy to use, it has all options needed.

This device will get the job done, but you need to check daily to make sure its working. The device records in .xtr audio files, which you need WINDOWS ONLY software to convert them to more compatible .wav audio files. The XtR Desktop software for this device is cumbersome. If you're planning on buying this to use with the idea of "set it and forget it" you will be sorely disapointed! Went back to get a recording only to realize that months of calls went unrecorded due to the unit freezing. The screen will be frozen and no buttons will work until you remove all power from the device. Twice this has happened to 2 extremely important calls. I am now looking for a more reliable device! This $100+ device could have saved me from a lawsuit BUT IT DIDN'T WORK.

SD card will not will not install and once installed it cannot be removed -- 2nd machine that is doing this -- it's a casting problem == still trying to return it --- so far unable to do
