Are these shoes suitable for climbing mountains in the uk such as ben nevis, snowdon?

Ive hiked more than 700 miles over moorland and rock, grassland and sand, climbed Snowdon, Tryfan twice and Sca Fell...and hiked half the Pennine Way in these shoes and the tread is still good, the stitching is still in one piece and they are very comfortable. Im hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2020 and will be buying a pair especially for it. Great shoes

Are they waterproof to withstand rain? Town walks, 3-4 miles per day.

Not totally waterproof. I have worn them in the rain and due to ventilation water will eventually get in. However I consider them to be the best light walking shoes I have ever had (now on my 4th pair!) A good tip is to get a size bigger than normal. I normally take 10's but find 11 is perfect size for me.

My other merrell intercept which i bought 5 years ago were gore-tex. are these gore-tex also?

No it's not, all leather, so a water repellent would have to be applied.

are the soles perfectly flat or is there a slight heel raise? I can't quite tell from the photos.

Soles are flat, but the insole is slightly thicker at the heel, very comfortable shoe....
