Same high quality steel as always - perfect hardness
I foolishly let my two Sandvik cards get rusty and it was enough that they weren't very salvageable. Bought this one and am pleased to say that it's the same high quality as it always has been. So many things are of lower quality these days and I was worried that this card scraper might have suffered the same. They're about the perfect hardness to both accept forming a burr without too much difficulty and also to retain it for quite awhile. I've used it a ton on osage orange, ironwood/hornbeam, hackberry, and most all the normal domestic and exotic wood species. Used this one first on some hard curly maple and then a little bit on a piece of canarywood. Out of the package the edges are smooth and square enough that you can turn your burr without prep if you aren't too particular about things. Touch it up on a stone first and you'll get some really nice burrs. I have scrapers from Lynx and an old one from Veritas and a few from the newer DFM outfit (they're ok) but these are still the best, imo. If you need an aggressive higher angle burr, this card will retain it for longer than others. I like that these are still 6" (actually 150mm) so they'll work in a holder and are a little easier to flex by hand despite the thickness.

This is really probably better in general than a wax/oil product that protect the ...
I started using scrapers when I was building my first guitar at the age of sixteen. That was a long time ago. Now I use them for a wide variety of things. In the kitchen, I use them sometimes to help make sure the counter top is clean. It is a slick flat composite so the only thing that the blade will hit is something on top of the counter top. I also use one in the kitchen to clean the hardwood butcher blocks. This is really probably better in general than a wax/oil product that protect the wood but also is an attractant for food. If you scrap a butcher block that you have been using a butcher block protective product on you will be scraping it off the top surface and it looks to me like there is some food elements in the mix so that is a bit disgusting. It also helps mildly to keep a butcher block smoother after it has been abused by knife cuts. I don't try to shave wood off or anything so aggressive, just scrap off anything that is on the surface and I suppose a very minor amount of butcher block might get scraped off from time to time. There are a hundred of uses for a nice simple cabinet scraper. They also work on plastic and other hard surfaces. I used one to shave the plastic handle on a lower freezer door where when the frig was opened up top it drags the bottom freezer door open with it. The scraper was a much quicker solution than sanding the handle down or trying to counter the slightly sagging refrigerator door. And the advise in a wood shop has always been a wood surface is smoother if it is cut than if it is sanded.

Made in Portugal, thank you!
Perhaps the most important part to me is that it's "Made in Portugal" where at least some quality still exists! The metal seems to be of high quality and it works very well on relatively soft musical instrument tone woods. Would be even better if it were about 50% larger. I most likely will get a few more of these to add working time instead of stopping to sharpen time.

Scrapes beautifully for only $10
Cuts beautifully right out of the box. Comfortable to hold and seems hardened enough to last for a while. For $10, it's hard to beat.

Top shelf cabinet scraper
Excellent quality scraper. Very sharp right out of the box. I use it to remove varnish and to smooth hardwoods before finishing. If you donโt have a dedicated sharpener, you can just use a steel file to flatten it and then roll the edges with HSS drill bit. Works as well as other methods if you do it right. For ten bucks, this is a good deal.

The standard of card scrapers.
Of course these are good. They are basically the standard by which card scrapers are measured.
