Is terraforming mars required for this game?

Yes, Venus Next is an add on to the base game that adds small board for Venus cities and additional cards which add Venus tags. The base parts and board of Terraforming Mars is needed.

How do the people survive on Venus? It's hot enough to melt lead.

They float high up in the atmosphere where the air pressure is close to 1 and the temperature is much lower. Just like several miles up in our atmosphere is really cold.

These cards look very different from the original. Is this a real set or a fake?

Although I never heard of a fake version of this game, if you think you got a counterfeit copy from another seller, you can always return the game and report the issue to Amazon.
