Neat NeatDesk Desktop Scanner for Mac

I was really excited about trying this product but when I received it and open the packaging the cord was just thrown in the box and the neat desk was covered in dust. There was no instructions so I didn’t even know how to get this product working.

I purchased the NEAT Desk ND-1000 (like one shown in this page) several years ago for use on an Apple PowerMac G-4 to organize my receipts/documents. There was not an annual subscription fee to use the NEAT software and it worked great. Occasionally when scanning I would have to push the document down the chute to get it to feed. Now several years and house moves later, I pulled it out of storage to use with my 1 year old iMAC desktop. It would not connect to the NEAT Desk until I a) downloaded a driver update from NEAT, then b) Connected NEAT Desk to my MAC, then opened the Apple Image Capture application that came with my iMAC. Then my iMAC recognized the scanner when I powered it up and it worked fine. The image quality of the scan with Apple Image Capture on my first 3 tries was horrible, it was washed out. I’ll experiment to see if I can improve it. I will not purchase a $200/year subscription (as of December 8, 2023) just to get a better image when I scan a receipt or a document for emailing. I don’t need all of the business operations fluff that NEAT now wants me to pay for EVERY year. I have already paid for the scanner!Update: December 10, 2023. Image quality. When I scanned the first 3 documents I did not notice that the scan resolution in Image Capture was at the lowest setting, 150 DPI. I increased it to 600 DPI and the scans look like photographs now! You may have to scan your .doc at a 300 DPI resolution to keep the file size down to the limit required for whomever you might be emailing or uploading it to. The good news is though, simple scanning for electronic document storage and transfers this works great! I increased my Star rating from 2 to 3. If NEAT Desk had not changed their policy and still allowed the full software to be used like before, then I would give it a 5

I opened the box and was so excited to get this. But from the very beginning it did not work. The paper feeder would not recognize paper in it so therefore you could not scan any documents. Very disappointed, sent it back immediately.

Wont work with any computer unless you pay the membership which is 289.a year.

Please save yourself the headache. Do Not BUY! There's a $200 annual fee to operate this scanner. Warning is not a good investment.
