Quite complex legacy game, enjoyable
This is a legacy game. It changes every time it is played, and you need to play it with the same people each time - for each of the 10 or so rounds that make up the game. Each session is a couple of hours so it is an investment. It is a complex game, so not designed for beginners to modern board games. BUT we found it straightforward to play. You open, you read the first card, you do what it says (Remember to read ALL the card!) And you are off! Cards get written on, stickers added, rules updated. There are some fun quirks as you go through but I won't spoil any. Once the game has been played with all the way through, you are left with a unique board game that is completely playable. Ours was a bit unbalanced, though, and playing for the short term can lead to long term replayability being a little unbalanced. But we enjoyed it and played it every week, at least one session a weekend, if not two; until it was done.

fun for game nights
great fun with a well made and thought out strategy game. The winner is never obvious .In Charterstone, a competitive legacy game, you construct buildings and populate a shared village. Building stickers are permanently added to the game board and become action spaces for any player to use. Therefore, you start off with simple choices and few workers, but soon you have a bustling village with dozens of possible actions. The game never gets boring and is very pretty to look at. It's a great game if you like worker placement games such as Carcassonne.

Great game but patience is required for admin
I have friends into many different boards games who pick up rules very quickly and easily. We've so played our first game (of the 12 that make up the main story). What I would say is, unless one of the group had already played through it on their own, this already knowing all thr rules to come, you MUST have a patient group, prepared to absorb new rules intermittently and also pause and wait for the "admin" to be undertaken and not rush, less stuff gets missed (and there is a fair amount in this game!). On retrospect, I imagine this is more the reason for the 14+ rating than anything difficult in the game. I like what I've experienced so far, which I appreciate is little and confident I will enjoy the full experience and playing the "full" game post story in future.

Great game.
Arrived in ok condition but 2 of the charter chests had mild crush damage in one corner. That didn't affect gameplay at all, and the game itself is super fun. Avoid spoilers at all costs

Easy to Learn
Charterstone is unusual in that you don't need to begin by reading the rulebook, as the game naturally leads players through the core concepts during play. It's really good fun, and the high quality of the materials adds to this. I'd definitely recommend having some adhesive labels, because writing on the board is difficult with seemingly any pen.

Fantastic legacy game
Excellent game, easy to learn as you learn as you play, the legacy gameplay is amazing as you unlock and discover things while you play, would 100% recommend as a first legacy game for anyone!

What a playthrough before purchasing, but still a good game
It's a nice game, awesome graphics and theme, but unfortunately it becomes troublesome to understand later as you progress. It must just be me, but it kinda gets complicated along the way. Still recommend it for people who enjoy worker placement of this magnitude and have a lot of patience.

Something different for games night !
We LOVE board games! My brother bought this and we played together several times. My fiancé and I then light our own board. Quality of the game pieces is great. They didn’t cheap out! The artwork is awesome too! It’s a fairly simple legacy game to place but the instructions when first starting out are lacking. We have to google questions, even now, on a fairly regular basis. But, the game is excellent. A mix of resource collection, strategy, story telling with turns in plot along the way. I highly recommend !

A Board Game Designed For EVERYBODY
"The immortal Forever King has selected 6 citizens of Greengully to start a new village far from the Eternal City. Congratulations for being chosen! Your goal is to bring the greatest glory to the Forever King so you may rule the village in his name. After spending all day flying over the kingdom, the zeppelin sets down and the guards open the hatch for you and your companions." This then is how you start to play CHARTERSTONE. For those of you, like myself, who have never played a "Legacy" board game, you are probably asking what IS a Legacy Game? It is a game where your decisions on what to do permanently change the play of the game and the future of the outcome. This means that if you eventually start over (you will need to purchase a Recharge Pack for the game, it is advised you do so now if you are planning on buying this game) the play of the game will be entirely different. Even the rules of the game can and will change depending upon your choices. You will enter this fantasy scenario entirely blind without need for "learning" any "rules" whatsoever. Game play and directions are intuitive. Once you open the box you are guided through step by step and you and your fellow players take the steps and dive right in. You can play with up to 6 players and you can even assign some non-player players to the courses of action. I am trying to be vague purposefully because like a good movie, you don't want to be given any "spoilers" about what you are going to encounter. This game is fun and it has just given me incentive to try out some other "Legacy Games". There is a little touch of open ended RPG Fantasy Adventure video game, a smidge of Sid Meier's Civilization, an element of discovery akin to maybe Clue from the old world, a constantly evolving artificial intelligence that "guides" you and throws down obstacles in your path. There are twists and turns and with each outing (campaign) you will make key decisions towards your eventual ending. This game consists of 12 "campaigns" before it is entirely finished and you then you will need to use a Recharge pack to start all over. When you open the box for the first time, do not let the plain non-descript labelled inset boxes give you a false impression. This is one of the most artistic and beautiful games I've ever seen or experienced. Again, to avoid spoilers it is hard to describe without giving away secrets that add to the luxuriousness of this one of a kind experience. Unique is the best description of CHARTERSTONE, and from what professional reviewers have said of the game I don't believe that only applies to newcomers to these kind of games. It should also be noted that boomers and seniors are enjoying this game a lot as well as the younger gamers, CHARTERSTONE is an adventure for all ages, a joy to play, and again a work of art you build as you play. The most personal feeling of an unveiling as the game progresses is one of the hallmarks of enjoyment here, there are secrets revealed and unexpected turns to take, so if you like a sense of mystery and open-world exploration and sudden cliff-hangers with uncertain futures poised on a balance, then this will be your cup of tea, and see... no spoilers given away. The reviewers who have written reviews prior to the release date of December 14th and only said good-bad-or indifferent in a few words cannot have possibly played this game as it was only available to professional gamer/reviewers and invitees of Stonemaier Games prior to this date (there are some pro reviews out on the internet by good writer/reviewers, but be cautious not to ruin your experience with spoilers. A lot is made of the cleverness of the game design and I have to agree, this is an intellectual reward as well as a fun adventure that can and will appeal to the broadest of character types and ages from somewhat-mature teen to the old codger. In a word, a board game designed for Everybody.
