For some reason my unit came with 2 C size energizer batteries already fitted, as these were fitted I can only assume the unit was tested and they left them in as when I came to test the unit the batteries were dead. Quickly replaced the batteries and My phone app detected it the unit.Set up is incrediblly simple and easy once I replaced the batteries! If it was not for that it would have recieved 5 stars as I was geniully excitied to get this setup and running.The unit is IP45 rated and is actually built very well. It has the option to be wall mounted or pole mounted and comes with some standard screws. The instructions are very basic. However to be fair the app talks you through the setup pretty well.I decided to actually mount my unit to sliding gate as using the pole mount fittings and supplied cable ties. If you do choose to wall mount it you can simply twist the unit to remove it from the bracket and replace the batteries when required. I have no idea how long the batteries I bought will last but I am very pleased so far. Would like to see an Android widget for quick access other than that no complaints so far. Winter is now upon us so the real test will to see how it holds up during the next few months.I am not particulary looking forward to having to replace the batteries as I have to cut the cable ties, get more black cable ties reattach to the gate. Would love to see this unit with a built in battery that can be charged.OK so after a week or so starting to experience some massive limitations this will probably not be the best thing to replace the standard fob if using from inside a car. The signal is massively reduced.If you are considering one of these then I would think about how quick you need your gates to open if your on a main road or not.I intended to replace my fobs originally but instead might look into a GSM opener instead.

I have been using this product for around 2 months now and find it has been an excellent alternative to my standard gate/garage remote control. It is easy to set up (although you must have a master remote control) and, once the remote has been registered with the Solo it is very easy to link the app on the iPhone (or other smartphones) to the Solo. There is a slight delay compared to a standard remote control when opening the gate or garage but we are talking fractions of a second, in all other respects I have found the system works effectively and with a good range.I have found that it is best to position the control box somewhere without obstructions in order to maximise the range but this is not essential if you will be close to the Solo. One of the great advantages for me is being able to give trusted friends and visitors access to the property without needing to supply expensive remotes by setting up their smartphones. Also, at times I find it convenient at times to carry just my smartphone and leave the remote at home. Overall an outstanding and innovative product if you don't want to carry your remote control or you want to save the expense of buying extra remotes for other people. I have had to contact the seller a couplle of times with queries and received a quick response and excellent advice - highly recommended.
