Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Book?

Absolutely love this book - so very cleverly thought through! Something for both children and adults to enjoy in here - we bought it after reading it at our niece's house and have since bought it twice as a gift. Always a sign you think a lot of a book! As a parent I always had a soft spot for Charlie and Lola so maybe that's why I appreciate the way this story is told! The premise of the way you treat your books having an impact if you happen to fall inside it, and meeting all those characters we all know so well - it's excellent. Good illustrations and imaginative use of text as well. If you enjoy this, you'd also enjoy 'Beware of the Storybook Wolves' as it's about the same character. This book made us try more of her work and we've enjoyed it all! Don't start this if you're looking for a really short bedtime story before Eastenders starts though, it needs a little more time than rattling through The Gruffalo :)

Children LOVE this book, from infants through to middle juniors. They love the illustrations, and the way that the text is presented in spirals or unusual ways to illustrate what the words are actually saying. They love the fact that Herb can cut a hole through the palace floor to escape from the queen into another room. They love the stroppy Goldilocks, and the other fairy tale charaters who flit in and out of the story.

What a great book - my 4 year old really loves looking through this on her own as well as when we read it to her - with so many familiar characters such as Goldilocks and Cinderella (two of her favourite) with a completely different spin on them - it has also taught her that it is not a good idea to neglect her books as all sorts of things could happen! I shall definately be buying the other book in this series - second hand again as they are great value for money!!!

Lovely book but unfortunately the cover was damaged and creased- it’s a shame as it’s a present.

This is a clever book that as parents we enjoyed reading to our three year old! While she is not yet familiar with some of the fairy tales that thread through the book she loved the fact that some of the writing is backwards and upside down and that there were holes in some of the pages! She may appreciate more when she is older but for now we are delighted with something new and fresh to choose for our bed time story!!! We got worried when we knew the words of Pollys pink pajamas!!!

Great book would definitely recommend. I used it with my mixed age KS1 class. We were doing a topic on traditional stories. Lots of potential for using as a stimulus for work but my kids just loved the story for what it is. A great read aloud.

This is one of the most fun books you'll find to read to (or with) your children. My 3-year-old daughter loves it! Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Book is totally engrossing. It is probably the closest thing to "full-contact-reading", because the reader must open "hidden" pages to find a royal party, must help the main character escape through a hole in the page, and must flip the book upside down and back up again to read certain parts. Besides being entertaining, there's a great message in the book that every librarian (or bibliophile) would love... Have some fun with this one!

There is something to discover on each page. I got the book for my grandchildren, but I think I like it even better than they do.

This is our family's favorite children's book. The illustrations are amazing. After checking this book out from the library at least 15 times, we were thrilled to find a copy on Amazon. The book arrived very quickly and in great condition. This version is not the American version we were used to, but I think that the few differences in the British version make it even more charming of to read. I cannot recommend this book enough.

I first read this book in college when I was going for elementary education and was in my literacy block. When I was nearing the end of my student teaching in kindergarten, I decided to buy one for my future classroom, and donate one to the classroom where I completed my student teaching. My cooperating teacher, loved it, and the kids really enjoyed when she read it to them. I love collage illustration and Lauren Child is one of my favorite children's authors.

I got this book at the library to read to my grandchildren. They loved it. We checked it out so many times I decided to buy it. It's one book that is a classic in our family. We love it
