SIRUI MS18 Macro Focusing Rail, Precise Focus Slider, Arca-Swiss QR Plate

My order for the SIRUI MS18 Macro Focusing Rail arrived a few days ago. I was anxiously trying it with my macro gears, and I was very impressed. First of all, it is a well machined device, with very find gear, and very little play. Secondly, the design of it with a 1mm per round gear on a wide side rail on both sides of the device, makes it very stable when moving at either direction. There is also a movement lock nob, which can also be used to slightly tighten the moving friction on the rails to reduce any undesired side movement when turning the gear wheel. At the bottom of the rail is an Arch compatible rail to be mounted on any Arca-compatible clamp. Thirdly, it has a gear-release lever for quick movement by disengaging the gears, which is very handy, and it can be pressed back to secure the geared movement without any play. Finally, it is priced very reasonable. Overall, I think it is a keeper, and it will be heavily used in my macro photography. One reviewer complained that the clamp nob is in a way for sliding to the far end. I simply turned the clamp 90-degree so that the nob will be on the side instead of at the front, making it even more accessible, and away from the sliding. You just have to turn the clamp plate 90-degree on your camera accordingly.

The Sirui MS18 Macro Rail is well built and everything it's described to be. Uses a lead screw mechanism that allows for very fine, controlled adjustments, especially for techniques like focus stacking. It is a budget-friendly and well-regarded option, particularly for its sturdy build and useful features.

Tested this for some macro photography. Was surprised at the quality for the price. That said it is a bit rickety in some places. A good beginner focus rail but I feel like serious macro photographers would outgrow this quickly.

Anything SIRUI is 5 stars. I have several items and all are rock solid. You will not find a better quality at a fair price. This focus stacking rig is amazing.

This focus rail really helped my Still Life and Macro photography

Seems good quality and solid in general, but the reason I had to return it is that the direction the camera is pointing oscillates too much when you move it back and forth along the rail. If you’re using it for macro photography focus stacking, this is not good.

I own a Sirui tripod and Sirui gimbal, and wanted to keep everything within the Sirui ecosystem, so I purchased the Sirui rail even though cheaper alternatives were available. Like my other Sirui gear, the build quality and finish on the rail are excellent. However, I was extremely disappointed by a significant design flaw: the rail does not slide all the way to the end because the knob physically obstructs the movement. This is not a minor inconvenience — I discovered it mid-session during a focus stacking shoot and had to stop, rework my setup, and redo several hours of work. For a brand that prides itself on quality, it is surprising that this was not caught during testing before the product went to market. I hope Sirui addresses this in a future revision, as the brand otherwise deserves its strong reputation.

Super leichtgängige Kurbel mit angenehm langer Übersetzung zur präzisen manulellen Steuerung des Schlittens. Ich weiss nicht, ob es bei anderen Modellen hier eine feinstufige Rasterung gibt. Man muss halt nach optischen Eindruck kurbeln, halbe Umdrehungen sind keine Problem. Bei kleineren Schritten muss man sich etwas konzentrieren. Kein Vergleich mit den schwergängigen Billigprodukten, die ich vorher hatte. Unter Traumflieger.de wird eine Stackingvariante gezeigt, bei der unter Dauerserienfeuer bei relativ kurzer Belichtung zügig durchgekurbelt wird mit hervorragendem SoftwareStacking Ergebnis. Das hat mich inspiriert. Verwende Zerene, es klappt alles bestens. Kleines Manko: mit montierter OM1 Cam und langem 90mm Makroobjektiv ist der Schlitten mit Füßchen leicht wackelig. Bei Kurbeln besser mit der anderen Hand etwas stabilisieren. Breiterer Abstand der Füßchen wäre da etwas besser. Damit kann ich aber gut leben. Alles wunderbar. Auch ohne Stacking hervorragend geeignet, um sich bei 2:1 Vergrößerung an genau diesen Maßstab heranzupirschen. Was ich noch nicht probiert habe, ist dei Montage auf Stativ. Ein Montagegewinde ist an der Unterseite schon mal vorhanden.

Ik heb al jaren een macrolens die handmatig scherpgesteld moest worden.. Dat was vanaf een statief niet echt te doen. Ik heb twee van deze macrorails gekocht, en ik heb mijn macrolens weer opnieuw gevonden. Daar komt bij dat de garantie en de service van Sirui geweldig is. (Ik heb meerdere producten van Sirui en heb de service wel eens nodig gehad)

ふた昔ぐらい前の定番品のベルボンのマクロスライダーに、アルカスイス互換のクランプやらベースやらを付けて使っていましたが、余りにも重く、腰高になり過ぎ、いよいよ使い辛いと降参して機材更新しました。 スクリューギアとの噛み合わせを外して大きく動かせるのが、SIRUIを選んだ決め手です。 前後、または左右の一軸方向だけの軌道ですがギアもスムーズで、傾けても自重で落ちたりしません。 2軸の調整をするには上に同じものを重ねて装着すれば良いようですが、必要に応じて考えれるのは良いですね。基本前後さえあれば事足りる撮影がほとんどですので。 クランプ付属のベースプレートですが、短辺方向にズレと落下防止の爪があります。折り畳む事ができるので、邪魔にはなりませんが、普通はプレートの長辺側にあるものなので、なぜ無理やり付けたのか理解に苦しみます。SIRUIのこだわりの部分ではありますが残念ながらあまり汎用性のあるものではないので、そろそろ諦めてやめればいいのにと思ってしまう部分ではあります。 話が少し逸れましたが、スライダーの出来は満点だと思います。 この手の商品は、現在一万円を切る商品が人気ですが、セールなどで一万円を少しオーバー程度になった際には、これに決めて後悔はないと思います。
