Are you facing drought or water shortages? Gardening with Less Water offers simple, inexpensive, low-tech techniques for watering your garden much more efficiently ― using up to 90 percent less water for the same results. With illustrated step-by-step instructions, David Bainbridge shows you how to install buried clay pots and pipes, wicking systems, and other porous containers that deliver water directly to a plant’s roots with little to no evaporation. These systems are available at hardware stores and garden centers; are easy to set up and use; and work for garden beds, container gardens, and trees. Review: Concise, informative and fantastic diagrams. - I'm a keep gardener in England and was looking to making my garden more drought tolerant for these increasingly hot summers. This is full of fantastic ideas that are universal. The diagrams and descriptions are simple to follow, as well as being thoroughly well explained. Review: brilliantly simple! - This is such a common sense book I'm surprised I hadnt thought of some of these myself! Clearly written and great illustrations that really explain the different ways of growing things on limited water supplies. Well worth the money spent on it!

Great book for gardening in a drying climate
Lots of practical ideas for gardening with less water. Got an allotment this year and the weather has been ridiculously dry - driest summer in 500 years - so invested in this book for some ideas. Haven't been disapointed

Really enjoyed discovering these old methods.
Ya it tickles the curious part of my brain. Lots of ideas for growing in Mediterranean, drought or dry areas. Some of it, well all of it, is very common sense. I almost slap my forehead and say; "Why didn't I think of that!". Except for sourcing the buried pots and other clay irrigation examples, I would use some of these methods right away. I did select glazed large planters for my mediterranean climate, shaded, covered front porch, where it never rains. I plugged the drain hole and the glaze will hold water in the heat rather than sweating it out. Then I added a PVC pipe with holes drilled towards the bottom so I can water the root zone, as illustrated in the book. Because it never rains I water and can control how much water is put in the pots to avoid having the soil too wet. So, the book is very interesting. Great measurements and comparisons between use of various irrigation methods. The water savings are significant as is the percentage of plant successes. I find the methods enticing and would put them into use if i could find an economical source for the fired clay parts.
