Yes, it’s easy. Mine had a small black plastic cover that came in the box. Find the mounting bolt, remove indicator, replace with cover. Think it’s a .5mm hex bolt.

Q: Does it have the red visual index showing the gear you are in?

Yes it has that red sign but it doesn't have the numbers of which gear is.
