Worked great on my 2023 Subaru
After stressing over it for a week, I used this device with the AA battery pack to replace the battery on my 2023 Subaru Impreza. Given that a small percentage of reviewers had bad luck, I took the following precautions: after installing the batteries, I used a multi tester to confirm that power was going into the device. It showed 12.8 V when the battery calipers were tested. Then as I got ready to do the job, I turned the battery pack off and connected it to my car to make sure the light received a supply from my car's battery. Then I turned this device back on and switched out the car battery which took about five minutes. I then checked to make sure I didn't leave any tools under the hood and that everything was securely fastened, and when I restarted the car all of the settings were still intact. To protect against shorts, I put the two unused calipers inside rubber gloves, and when I took the positive wire off of my battery I put that inside a heavy insulated leather glove to prevent it from contacting any metal from the chassis. Subaru had offered to replace that battery for roughly $300. I bought a much stronger battery for $260 and this little device. The original Subaru battery lasted just over three years. For all I know it isn't even bad. But I didn't want to take any chances. Bottom line is this little tool worked as it was supposed to.

Worked very well, AA batteries make it easy to reuse when needed
Just received this today, put in 8 AA batteries, turned it on, plugged it in, changed the battery and ... no problems at all. It's like the battery was never disconnected. I really like the AA battery option as I can always find those and they are easy to transport. It worked great. The only improvements would be clearer on/off state separate from the OBD socket. The battery pack has a small switch to turn it on or off, and doing so will turn on an LED light on the battery saver's OBD socket. This is to let you know the socket is getting power from the AA batteries (or 12v source). BUT if you plug it into the OBD while the old car battery is still connected (and has a small amount of power) the LED light will also come on (whether batteries are there or not), potentially tricking you into thinking the batteries are powering it. If you didn't turn on the memory saver but remove the old battery - well, it's too late. To be clear: the Memory Saver is in two pieces - the battery pack and the OBD plug/clamps. Connect them together. 1) put the AA batteries in. There is a little switch on the battery box - move the switch until you turn on the LED light on the OBD plug. This means the OBD will be powered by the AA batteries when plugged into the car. 2) leave the power on and plug the Memory Saver's OBD plug into the car's OBD port . Do not move the switch. 3) go ahead and change the car battery 4) when all done, remove the Memory Saver from OBD port

ALMOST a FIVE star!
I like this cheap and easy way to make sure your vehicle's presets STAY preset, and are not lost to the ozone, or the dark places! The MRCARTOOL is a pretty cool tool. It's a small 12 volt DC power supply, one designed to make swapping big car or pickup batteries less stressful: PLEASE, battery cable bypass leads, don't come undone! No chance of that when you can securely plug in to your vehicle's OBDII receptacle! MR Car Tool comes with and OBDII plug, traditional battery clamps should you want to use a 12 volt as your temp power source, a tray for 8 1.59 V (new) AA batteries, and a bright light on the OBDII plug that lights up when you have a proper connection to the OBDII plug in on the firewall In the past, when swapping out my car or truck's 0ld batteries for a new 12 volt, I'd used a spare battery from my bike as a temp power supply to keep all my presets, BUT...with leads attached between the temp power battery and the vehicle's old battery cables, all could go to Hades as you undid the battery cables from the old battery...if you weren't careful, the temp power supply's leads would loosen and voila! Loosed cables--lost presets! By plugging in the MRCARTOOL OBDII to (surprise) the OBDII plugin under the steering wheel on the firewall, you have a small, easy to handle 12 volt power supply to keep your presets preset! It uses 8 (1.59 volt each) AA batteries ( not supplied) in series: 12Volts in a small package! My only gripe is when you plug the 16 pin plug in to the car's OBDII receptacle, it doesn't FEEL real secure! BUT, it is secure and I never failed to easily get that white light that says, "Boy or gal, you got power!" If your vehicle battery is easily accessible, and you can lift the old battery out, and drop in a new one, and remember to remove Black side FIRST , and put black side back on LAST, you can save the $40 bucks a service dealer might charge!

Great quality tool to keep your car’s settings and computer up while swapping a battery
Great tool for car battery swaps. I wish I had bought this sooner! Good quality clamps and wire, great option to use eight AA batteries if you don’t have a spare car battery to use with the clamps. I recently used it on my 4Runner to swap out the dying four year old battery. I used the AA battery option which worked great. I plugged it into the OBD II port, dropped in eight AAs, plugged it into the connection on the wire, and then took the battery out, drove to the dealer, got the new battery, prepped it, put it in and took off the backup. Perfect. No settings lost and more importantly, no service/error/check engine lights! Highly recommend if you do your own car maintenance.

Perfect - Very Happy With It
I needed to change out an old auto battery and I really wanted to avoid losing my radio settings, clock, other preferences and OBD info for a change. I also did not have a spare battery and didn't want to take a chance using the new battery with jumper cables like a circus performer. I used the included AA battery pack (8 batteries, not included) and connected it to the OBD port under the dash. I took my time and carefully changed out the battery. When I was done I disconnected this unit from the OBD and voila, all my settings were intact. I couldn't be happier. The pic shows everything included. I put some blue tape over the clips that are meant for attaching my to a spare 12v battery. I didn't want to take a chance that one of the clips (especially the positive) would inadvertently touch something under the dash and short out the car's computer. It was probably unlikely, but I left nothing to chance. The tape can be peeled off later if I need it.

Weirdness in OBD2 opening the rear hatch?!
Connected it to a 12v charger, which had a voltage of 11.5 VDC. Plugged it into the OBD2 port, and the back hatch of my Honda opened! Installed the new battery, I was committed. The hatch would not close with the pushbutton. It would close by hand and I pushed it latched. It would not open. Power cycled the car (off/start). And the rear hatch worked again. Scary. Thought I'd fried something. There is something odd about the OBD2 connection. Maybe I got lucky. Would not buy again.

The fuse case melted, but the fuse blew before further damage
I used it a dozen of times while maintaining/recharging the battery on multiple cars. Don’t use the 8xAA battery adapter for things that take longer than replacing the battery, like recharging, as the AA battery would drain soon. I use a 12V 1.5A transformer and it worked fine until yesterday. I like to disconnect the car battery while charging hence I use the odb-II memory saver. Yesterday I was checking the battery of the German car, and try to recover it, but it was at end of its life. So the car battery was already not working properly. I found the ODB-II device with the fuse blown and the fuse casing bent and cracked open, probably it overheated before the fuse blew. I don’t know if it’s a German car thing or a end-of-life car battery. I’m replacing it with a new one of the same model

Easy to Use - DIY
Used this when replacing a 2021 Subaru Outback battery. Worked perfectly and the AA power supply simplifies the process. Once the car battery is disconnected the 'Memory Saver' beeps to let you know its working. It will continue to beep until the new car battery is connected.

Justo lo que necesitaba
Logro mantener la memoria de mi camioneta cuando realícele el cambio, no tarde mas de 3 min pero supongo podría darme mas tiempo en caso de tener que limpiar las terminales o hacer reparaciones menores, tener la opción de usar pilas AA fue lo que me convenció para comprarlo, use pilas recargable de 1.2V, trate de tenerlas completamente cargadas para llegar a su máximo voltaje que me daba aproximadamente 1.3V y sin ningún problema, pero creo seria bueno en caso de usar baterías recargables buscar que sean de 1.5 V para lograr llegar a los 12 V

Spot on
I had to change a battery on a 2020 Renault Captur, checked my handbook and NO radio code. So I knew as soon as I disconnected the battery that would put the multimedia in factory reset and request a code. This memory saver did exactly what it said it would do, I used the 8 x AA battery pack (I would highly recommend using lithium iron batteries). Plugged it into the OBD port turn on the switch on the 8 x AA pack and change my car battery restarted the car and all was WELL 👌all information and settings still in place.
