Brooding third album from 1998 features "Teardrop" and "Inertia Creeps". Review: A masterclass of darkness and claustrophobia!! - Massive attack are often referred to as ths godfathers of the trip hop/Bristol scene and for me, I feel that "Mezzanine" was the release that sealed the deal. I actually missed out on the earlier releases, because I was too deep into hip-hop in the early nineties and I did not consider massive attack's sound to be hip-hop enough!! Anyway, during the mid nineties one of my college friends, who was a big massive attack fan made me a compilation tape (remember those??)of all their stuff and told me listen without prejudice. That was the turning point and I was a fan ever since. "Mezzanine" is a murky, dank, haunting, atmospheric, brooding (if Batman was a real person this would be on his playlist for sure!!) and disturbing affair. A real grower that never gets old. This is neither hip hop or dance. The music is normally referred to as "trip hop" but like Portished, this goes way beyond the genre staple and stands alone in it's own category. This is also the perfect album to listen to with the lights off, smoking a joint (bliss!!) This music, amazingly manages to be chilled out, yet heavy at the same time. The mark of a true classic release is the fact you still listen to it many, many years later. This is one of them and I loved it when it was released all those years ago and I still love it to this very day. Songs from "Mezzanine" have also been used on numerous occasions to soundtrack adverts, TV shows, films, etc, past and present. This album is a also a particular favourite amongst advertisers/creatives, hipsters, fashion packs, stoners and also as background music at middle class parties!! I have never ending love for this CD, as it's a timeless gem and a thing of beauty. If you truly love music then do not hesitate. Buy this and enter into this murky and dark landscape. You will not be dissapointed and you can thank me later!! Enjoy. Review: Work of art this album. - Brilliant on cd, better on vinyl.

Einstein's Music
Picture the scene. It's 1998 and Einstein is alive and well now living in the UK. He finds himself dismayed at his inability to solve the Theory of Relativity once and for all, even with a 16 bit Windows NT supercomputer and a dial up connection to this new information superhighway that everyone keeps talking about. The great man even finds himself cursing god for not spending week two writing up his experiment. Instead he decides to distract himself with some music. He'd enjoyed OK Computer by Radiohead released the previous year. He logs onto said information superhighway and brings up his amazon account. He sees his purchase of OK Computer and underneath it says "if you like this you'll love this even more". It's Mezzanine by Massive Attack. He has to wait 5 business days for his order to arrive as he rejects and amazon prime membership based on a dislike of Jeremy Clarkson. However he thinks it'll be worth waiting for. A week later the moment arrives and he has his first listen. He's not disappointed. It's a celestial masterpiece. Massive Attack certainly know the formula for brilliant results. Einstein forgets all about the Theory of Relativity and instead immediately looks at the Massive Attack Discography. He orders two more CD's. "Protection" from 1994 and "Blue Lines" from 1991. If only I could see into the future he says. (He means he'd be ordering 100th Window and Heligoland ). Einstein feels at piece with the world having made the ultimate discovery.

Great album but ever so slightly disappointed with the package
I’m not going to review Mezzanine - chances are that if you like Massive Attack then you’ll know what an absolute classic this is; I’m reviewing this vinyl album release. That being said, this is a double album featuring 180gm records which sound great - that bass you remember is very much there (even present on my small Wharfedale 9.0s), but the packaging is slightly disappointing in that I was expecting this to be a gatefold, but the two records sit in their inner sleeves next to each other in the jacket. A shame given the two disc offering. So, 5 stars for the album, but 1 taken away for this vinyl release. Still sounds damn good though!

A classic album on vinyl.
I am an avid collector of vinyl and this is one of my favourite albums of all time. Beautifully crafted by Massive Attack and such timeless yet powerful tracks which evoke memories and bring me a lot of joy.

I ordered this vinyl. I received it sealed, but it has been opened before and corner folded a bit, had fingerprints on the vinyl inner sleeves. If I had known this I do not pay in advance the price of new... This would not happen on a physical store, or price would be lower, or I would get a not flawed unit... Shame.
