MAXUS Milligram Scale, 50g x 0.001g, Black Mg Scale, 50g Calibration Weight

The most accurate & sensitive pocket scale I've ever used outside of a laboratory, but those scales are over a thousand dollars, this one is less than $20 so I think that makes up for it. You can tell that the materials aren't the highest of quality, but once again it's a scale that's less than what I spent at McDonald's the last time I went there. As long as you don't run it over or play basketball with it I think it'll hold up just fine as the actual weighing mechanism seems to be of the industry standard. This scale is ideal for very small, delicate things or substances such as diamonds, herbs, & spices, but if you plan on weighing stuff that's greater than an ounce I wouldn't recommend this scale because that's not what it's for anyway. It's to obtain a very precise accurate reading in the gram-miligram range which it does just fine.

Lightweight, price point would make one suspect it is a toy. Looks can be deceiving! Checked vs. known weights & it is SPOT ON for weighing. Repeatable to +/- one mg. So far, I really like this & the price cannot be beat. Use this to help verify Silver Bullion coins @ 1 troy oz . The construction is such that it will not withstand a lot of rough use; but with care it may last a good long time. (Note to reviewer that remarked "it is not a mg scale": just put a black sharpie mark to the right of the last digit, everything left of the mark is milligrams (smile). )

Very good quality and great for quickly checking powder weight while reloading.

I am the type of person to actually read the manual. They don’t make an effort to make it clear on the product listing that this milligram scale isn’t actual accurate to .001 gram, which is 1 mg. The tolerance is actually accurate to + or - .005 gram, or +/- 5 mg. It says in the manual it won’t read anything under .009 gram, or 9mg. So if you needed it for actually accurately measuring in amounts of .001 gram, or 1 mg, you should look elsewhere, this one can’t do it. Originally I thought that was going to be a problem for me. I wanted this scale for measuring my medication, since I take 1/4 tablet daily, and breaking the tablet into quarters is extremely difficult to do consistently. Each tablet is 8 mg, so I figured, I need this thing to measure amounts of .001 to .002 gram accurately. But it turns out, like most medications, there is some filler in there. Each tablet is actually .4 gram, or 400 mg. So this scale does just fine for doses that large. So it has been helping me regulate my daily medication so I’m not taking too much, or too little. This scale doesn’t have a lot of surface area, so if you need it for measuring larger things, it’s not going to be the best option for you. It just happens to work out well for me. But it’s still not actually a milligram scale in my opinion. If it was, it would be able to measure 1 mg increments accurately.

So, to those who use this scale and say it's great, you're either lying or have zero clue what a scale does. It was "accurate enough" for the first month. After that, it needed to be zeroed after anything was weighed. Finally, it became so inaccurate, that it is useless. It also won't calibrate anymore. Also, it never returns to zero. This, with less than 6 months of use. It is so inaccurate, it can't even weigh its own calibration weight accurately! It can't weigh ANY calibration weight correctly. That's assuming the scale can be zeroed. It usually can't. Yes, I changed batteries. Yes, I tried using the cord. Yes, I used it on a level, solid surface. Yes, I tried removing all transmitting electronics from anywhere near it. Yes, I made sure there is no moving air in the room. I guess I could build a solid concrete reinforced room to use it in, with zero air flow, and no way in or out, but that seems excessive. It is absolutely junk. Of course, I could have got a lemon, but it did work well for a month. After that, it is now a poor paper weight.

it's easy to use very accurate seemingly built quite well I'm pretty sure mine was previously owned and used by someone because of the VERY strong odor of perfume embedded into the plastic, that finally wore off after about 3 weeks, and the oily smudge marks underneath it that wiped off very easy, but didn't seem like it would have been from manufacturing it (there's nothing lubed or oiled on this scale so it doesn't make sense that new ones would have this). When I buy something that is supposed to be new, I expect it to actually be new - that's why I'm only giving this 3 stars, but it does work very well and I'm glad I bought it... I just wish it hadn't been used and I'm pretty darn sure it was (but once again, it DOES work very well).

Update: the company reached out to offer me a full refund. I also found there was a recalibration function that allowed me to get the scale working properly again. Original review: The reading of the 50g test weight started reading over 50g just after a month. Items that are 500mg are reading as 1000mg. It is now not covered under the return policy.

Does the job well. Lets me see just how much gold I have recovered.

This kept showing an error code. Unfortunately I can’t recommend it.

Maybe I got a dud, but my experience with this scale was not positive. When I first turned it on and attempted calibration, all the weights were coming out exactly doubled! It was bizarre. I took the batteries out and back in and then it went back to normal. However, even in normal operation the weight of a given item would vary quite widely, there was very little consistency. For gross measurements, this scale is fine, but if you want accuracy to the hundredth or more I would not recommend it. I was getting variances of 0.02-0.03 grams for the same item, rendering the scale useless to me. I picked up a UNIWEIGH 50 g scale and it has been fabulous, variance less than 0.005 grams.

50g calibration weight only registers as 40.67g. Not a good thing for reloading cartridges.
