How do you grow plants in it? Most plant pots/holders need drainage, is there drainage? I would be planting small succulents/cacti

The way I did it is as follows:I put a small layer of crushed stone in bottomThen a mixture of cactus soil and bark, planted the succulents in it.I water mine sparingly once a week and keep them in sunlight. Mine are growing very well.

Is this item made out of glass?

Yes it is. It is thick enough to not be too fragile. It is a nice weight. I would recommend this product. My terrarium looks great in it.

Could someone please give me a capacity estimate in gallons?

Due to the slant of the mouth of this bowl, I estimate it would hold no more than a gallon of liquid. I use it for a fruit bowl. As the name implies, it is well suited use as a planter or for other dry and semi-dry contents.

Substantial

Bought this to plant a Venus fly trap but it died before we could make a proper environment for it. Terrarium is substantial, heavy and high quality. Measurements in the description were accurate. Saving it for another Venus fly trap!!

Looks great but might have defects

The glass bowl is a decent size and shape for an open terrarium (I used mine to house several air plants). Overall feels pretty sturdy and looks pretty good. Unfortunately my glass has a small defect (bubble) on the side hence the 4 instead of a 5 star review.
