It was translucent. It doesn't dry completely clear.

is it food/aquarium safe

from my box instructions, "Dow Corning 732 Sealant ... not recommended for underwater use" . Nothing mentioned about food use. Says to consult MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheet) for more info. Use a search engine with search terms, "MSDS Dow Corning 732 sealant" . Product does give off strong acetic acid (vinegar) smell when exposed to water or humid air. I have tried to use it to seal an approx. 5 gallon cracked glass aquarium that was used in a lab. NO fish in aquarium, just warm tap water. Just used as a supply for a circulating water pump, constant temperature source (with an aquarium heater). The Dow Corning RTV 732 Sealant held for years, but always had a very slight dribble of water leaking. Good luck. ---Colin.
