A must for any aquarium
So wish I had made the change sooner, after years of using gravel then sand an back to gravel, I decided to bite the bullet an give it a try , WOW opened the bag poured straight into the aquarium an slowly filled with water added some tap safe an I think my baby plec is gonna love its new waters once its cycled an ready , really good value an will be buying more for when i upgrade to a larger tank , it looks very pleasing on the eye , was worried as other customers reviews were very mixed , i found the best way is to just open an dump it in i slowly filled the aquarium pouring into the filter chamber so it didnt disturb now just to sit back an start letting nature take its course, excuse the food bits on the bottom as starting an new cycle while my little guy is growing out , would definitely recommend, an the water looks clear an crisp should of used it sooner

recommend
Very good! Plants take root quickly and grow great. I recommend. The layer does not have to be thick and the price is very good. In stores I found the same product more expensive . Easy to use and safe for fish. Cover with another inert substrate.

Very good overall
Very good overall. Good nutrient density All my plants stated root development (low tech, no CO2 setup) Size of the granules is good - not too big not very small. Appearance /Aesthetically pleasing I used 2 kgs for 54l tank - slightly shallow. Should use 1.5 bags for it to really have carpeting, background and deep rooted plants. 1 minor drawback: it releases so much loose minerals even after 2 washes snd 72hrs of filter running. Finally had to do 2-3 50% water changes. That 1 star was reduced for lack of instruction covering that you need to wash the medium. Warning: don’t introduce fish until alert 15 days of cycling!

Good product
Good stuff, no clouding of water did not rinse, yet to test water as cycling. Added water slowly with cup in bottom of tank to minimise disrupting it, plants seem happy (they were browning when first purchased now green)

Not just for fish also can be used for plants and corms
Does what it says on the description, and also for plants (not just fish tank plants.) Bought this flurval stratum for the plants as Mrs wanted some for her alocasia corms when re sprouting them -worked a treat! And bonus not too expensive and easy to store and use.

Not for soft water!
Please be aware that this substrate is designed for hard water, and is not really suitable for using if you live in a soft water area (or use soft water in your tanks). The combination will crash your PH and risk crashing your whole cycle, and it’s a struggle to bring it back up. I eventually added crushed coral which is helping but my other aquarium where I just used cheap pond soil does so much better! I thought this would be easier, but it’s a pain to rinse clean without it breaking down and tends to emerge from the sand cap when I add plants (see the black dots in my photo), whereas soil does not. I’m sure it’s great under certain circumstances but it’s not quite what I needed, and I don’t think the info provided here makes that super clear for newbies to the hobby.
