One note: the version in the pictures at time of review indicates there is an RJ11 tester built in, which is not the case, the new model now has USB-C to USB-C test capabilities instead. I ended up making a couple RJ45 to USB adapter boards to be able to test all USB cables (works great), and have RJ45 to RJ11 adapters to test RJ11. One could really make adapters to test any other non-included cables were they inclined to do so, as between the RJ45 and HDMI inputs there are many paths that can be used (eight for RJ45 and 19 for HDMI). Just something to keep in mind. Now on to the review... This will test just about any kind of cable found in the home and/or home studio, and it does a wonderful job. The best part for me is that you can detach the two units and test cables in place, not having to pull them from installed positions. This to me is worth the cost premium over the other two units, because I have many (TRS and MIDI) cables in place and wanted to be able to test them without removal should I have an issue, and for that it works great. Luckily I have not had to use it for troubleshooting yet, but have tested some cables before implementing in my setup and it did the job wonderfully.

El único punto a mejorar es el compartimiento plástico de la batería 9V, ya q en mi opinión lo ideal seria q llevara pilas de litio recargable para evitar que se sulfaten por olvido

If you do lighting or video, you need this guy. Most cable testers only do audio cables. I'm a lighting guy and this has saved a lot of room set ups from busted cables. It's more than worth the price. Easy to use as long as you remember to pop a battery in first. Lights up well to tell you your cables are good/crap. If you do gav/utility, prepare to be everyone's new best friend.

Do not buy this product. This company does not know simple cable types. I purchased the CT88 detachable cable tester because it seemed to have a great set of features for the cost...I should have known better. You get what you pay for. My first cable I needed to diagnose was a simple guitar pedal patch cable. The tester showed that PIN2 was showing connectivity on PIN1 & PIN3. I re-soldered the cable and retested. Same result. I then tested the tester using a known good cable. Same result. I figured this was a defective unit so I requested an exchange. The new unit arrived promptly (good) but it failed the simple 1/4" TS cable test...same as the first unit. I contacted the seller and sent them a video of the issue...the response I received was patronizing and also absolutely incorrect. The response incorrectly described the cable I used in the video as TRS, tried to "educate" me on the difference between TRS and TRRS and TS...and then told me the way to test a TS cable was to use the probes instead of the 1/4" jacks on the unit. VIDEO attached Their asinine response: --- Thanks for your update. We received your email and had a deep search. --- The TS cable in the video you sent to us is a TRS Cable, not a TRRS or XLR cable. To distinguish two kinds of cables, we could easily find it is TRS with two rings (professionally, two pins) on the tip while we see three rings (three pins) when it is TRRS or XLR. The cable tester you bought works fine with both of them but is designed to use various methods with different cables because different rings are corresponding to different pins. --- When testing two rings (TRS) cable, please follow the steps below. 1. It is highly recommended to switch to “ON” when any kind of cables are tested. 2. Insert the probe leads shipped together with the cable tester. (See the attached image) Connect probe leads to both ends of the cable. Usually, the leads should be contacted with the same “ring”, respectively. 3. After step 2, the cable tester works with TRS cables. You could complete any test just like you did with audio cables and DMX cables, which worked great. ---

The detachable feature is a must for installed cabling. Works as advertised. Note that an intermittent short may test fine because it's intermittent :)

Super herramienta, muy útil a la hora de probar el cableado, el generador de tono facilita mucho el line check, el poder separar el tester es de lo mejor.
