Carbide inserts that go above and beyond(Literally)
So I make too many purchases on Amazon to review them all so I reserve this activity for products that I feel something must be said to guide or ward off potential buyers. That being said please let me Guide you in your search for carbide file guide to this one the Derraco Tungsten Carbide File Guide! Do not let the inexpensive nature of this product influence your opinion of it's quality as a matter of fact I don't know how they are producing a product at this high of level of materials, packaging, fit and finish, and overall greatness at this price. The absolute highlight standout feature for me as a knife maker are the raised Tungsten Carbide Inserts. While still being completely flat and square they stand proud of the stainless steel body (to which they are half dovetailed into for retention) approximately 1.5-2.0mm. thereby reducing the contact between your abrasive material and the much more abradable stainless steel. This is extremely helpful when using a belt grinder to grind in bevels and plunge lines. IDK if this is commonplace with newer file guides but my previous one did not have this feature which can be seen from the gouged areas near the ends of the inserts and that file guide was 3x's as expensive. I guess only time will tell the difference the elevated inserts will have in reduced gouges to the main body of the tool but from my limited experience with this brand new item just seeing how the grinding belt rides by comparison leads me to believe it is a very exciting and smart piece of ingenuity to enhance the longevity of this tool. Fantastic file guide, is really made from Tungsten carbide!
I was initially a little apprehensive this would be what it claims as its at such a reasonable price, but It is exactly what they state. the jaws are lined with a very thick and well made chunk of Carbide which will not wear down. I use this mainly for filing down watch and clock gears, which it works wonderfully for. Its very sturdy and the tolerances are much nicer than I would have expected for its price point. If you need a very well built and accurate file guide but at a decent price point then this is definitely a fantastic product.

Solid well made work piece.
This is a very well made piece, there's no wiggle or slop. Threads are clean and straight. Has worked with hand files and on my 2x72, the carbide held us against ceramic belts without damage. The carbide sections are replaceable, but I imagine it's going to take a lot of w ar before that's necessary.

Their Grrrreat
Pretty darn good, allows you to clamp onto pieces that are wider than 2 inches.

Fantastic file guide!!
I make custom knives and this guide is unbelievably good!! Absolutely blown away at how good it is for such little money. You can use it for bevel grinding, plunge lines, or what I use it for, cutting in shoulders for hiden tang knives. Holds up fine when used against a Combat Abrasives ceramic 60 grit belt. No deep scratches at all! It only took off the oxide finish on the carbide. At the time of this review, it comes in a form-fitted foam insert in a tin case. Includes longer bolts and allen keys, too! What makes this guide truly unique is the ability to replace the carbide. After doing some quick Google-ing, I found that you can order replacements off their website. The guide rods are a tight fit on this guide, so both sides don't "wiggle" and become uneven. The rods are held in place with a c-clip. There's plenty of room to fit any knife I'd ever make. It's one of those knife making tools that you didn't realize you needed until you try it. It will definitely make your work easier, cleaner, and it's a time saver! 12/10 - would recommend ๐

High quality and precise
Quite large and heavy, but really good quality. It take some getting used to if youโve only used regular file guides or freehand. Itโs built like a tank and very precise. Good value.

Best file guide Ive used
Buy all three sizes. Other file guides near this quality sell for $150 or more. I have not found anything to complain about. it adjusts smoothly and does not bind. The carbide faces are made of quality material and do not scratch during use on my 2x72
