Good Value NVG Goggles — But Not True ‘Binoculars’ and Could Be Improved
Overall, I’m very pleased with the Nightfox Swift 2 NVG goggles. I wanted an inexpensive night-vision device with a replaceable battery, and the two-year warranty is excellent. Product support has also been very responsive. One thing that should be clarified on the product page: this is not a true binocular device. It uses a single lens and sensor that projects an image onto an internal screen, which both eyes view simultaneously. In optical terms, this is closer to a bi-ocular display than a binocular. Both eyes see the same image, so you do not get true stereoscopic depth perception. Some reviewers note that IR illumination creates shadows that aid depth perception. That’s partly true, and you also get some depth cues when moving your head, but it’s still not the same as true binocular vision. Another point that isn’t clearly explained in the product literature is the vision requirement. The screen is only a few inches from your eyes. If you’re young or naturally near-sighted, you’ll probably see the display clearly. But if you’re farsighted or need reading glasses (have presbyopia), you may need corrective lenses to focus on the screen. I’m 80 and need about +2.5 diopters for reading. When I tried my wife’s +2.0 reading glasses under the eye shield, the image became much sharper. I have a pair of +2.5 Eyekepper reading glasses on order that measure about 138 mm wide and 50 mm tall, which appear small enough to fit inside the eye shield. Anyone who normally uses reading glasses should keep this in mind when buying a device with a display this close to the eyes. Nightfox might consider offering an optional face shield or insert designed to accommodate reading glasses or corrective lenses, since many users of night-vision devices are older and may need close-focus correction to view the screen clearly. The Swift 2 comes with a good headband and shoulder strap. However, the eyelets used to attach the shoulder strap could be redesigned. The bend angle makes it very difficult to thread the strap through. Without a very thin pair of strong forceps, it would have been quite frustrating. Some reviewers also mention that the goggles bounce on the hinge pin that connects them to the headband and swing away from your face when you look down. That is true, but there is an easy workaround. If you place the shoulder strap around your neck and pull both strap ends together behind your neck, you can clip them together (I used a large binder clip). This pulls the goggles firmly against your face and eliminates both problems. Nightfox could probably incorporate a simple strap tension feature to accomplish the same thing. One focusing tip: at 1× magnification, it can be difficult to judge the best focus. I found it helpful to tap the Zoom button to switch briefly to 3×, adjust focus there, and then switch back to 1×. Finally, the carrying case could also be improved. With the headband attached to the goggles, the case cannot be closed, so the headband must be removed. The hinge mounting bracket could also be removed, but repeatedly removing and reinstalling the small knurled screw that bolts it to the goggles doesn’t seem like a good long-term solution. I chose to leave the bracket attached, but that means the case has to be forced slightly to close around it. A slightly taller case with a designated place to store the headband in the lid netting—without pressing the power button—would solve this problem nicely. Overall, despite these minor issues, I’m very happy with the Swift 2 and think it offers excellent value for the price.

Cant go wrong
^ Obviously the phone camera footage doesn’t do it justice, but these do super good. It does have the problem where it will brick but the button next to the charger port fixes it up. Just keep it in 30fps and hopefully some firmware will be released to help. You can definitely see in absolute darkness. The only killer I found is that the IR illuminater is too close to the camera, so dust is a huge killer to seeing really anything until it settles. Other than that it’s a solid device and honestly it’s better than having nothing at all if you ever needed them. The included head strap works well. They’re good to go in my book.

Invaluable training aid emergency tool and hunting optic.
Unlike most folks I will say onboard infared emittors are great for learning 👍 however a 940hz flashlight smooths out the video to crisp 30fps no image blur using an infared laser at 30 yards mounted on an AR we can see offhand accuracy is excellent nice tight groups around 50 yards is the maximum range in low no light conditions. If you play airsoft absolutely 💯 if your using for scouting 💯 sitting in a ground blind or stand 💯 traversing difficult Terrain 70 you will need to slow down always adjust focus for conditions and take breaks in pitch black conditions pop up take a bearing and scout lines of march. Digital or analog in pitch black outside illumination is required so digital isn't automatically a downside. Having something affordable to train play with is invaluable and these provide real ability to see 👀 move shoot at night 🌙. Hunting hiking search and rescue the options are limitless.

Kinda Disappointed 😔
To start, i have, and love, the nightfox swift ( 1 ). Night Fox in general is a great company. Having that been said though... Running the NFS2 at 60fps, and then re-entering the men6, will 100% lock the system. You will need to remove the battery to reset. That in of itself is a huge negative. But.. It really seems to be the only one, that ive seen at least. The battery is removable, which is awesome. Except there is no quick release to do so. At night, in the dark, with a small screwdriver. Its not really doable. I personally have a solar power bank on the back of my helmet. I would love to see some kind of upgrade to allow a quick battery swap. Speaking of. The NFS2 comes with a dove tail mount, which is awesome, and well made. The picture does look better than the NFS1, but.. the built in lights, are too streamlined, and focus the beam to the point that any surface within 15 to 20, will cause a big bright spot right in the middle of your vision/ screen. This is Not, an issue with the NFS1. Although the piccture quality of the NFS1 is not as good as the 2. There are two color options in the picture setting. Being black and white, whichis standard/ same as the NFS1, but also a green monochrome setting. As it does look pretty cool, you get better definition and contrast in black and white. The NFS2 is a little bit bigger than the 1, and a little bit taller. Overall its good. But until the Very Few issues are fixed. I will most likely primarily use my NFS1, unfortunately. Again, Night Fox is a great company overall. This venture just needed a few more months in the lab , in my personal opinion.

Ok so after buying the swift and having issues with the eye relief I returned that and bought the Prowl instead . This has good eye relief and makes the difference between a soft image to a sharp image . So this is going to be a long term review and will be added to as time goes by . So in the box comes everything you need to start up inc a hard storage case that's a good quality item as is the charge lead and the head mount it also comes with a helmet mount for airport and a lens cover . Once unpacked charged and fitted the eye relief was set and provided a clear sharp image that git better as I played around with the settings, tmThe nightvwas clear with no moon and was dark . The unit works well with no IR illumination switched on which on a dark night was ok but with cloud cover it's pretty good this gets better with the IR illumination switched on and has settings from 1 to 5 and a 3x zoom it also has a back-light screen function that makes the image brighter to the eye . So taking the dog for a walk into the moors with no torch the unit worked well and enabled me to see the dog and surrounding area with ease and I can see this being useful for night observation of wildlife or shooting. I intend to use it for night fishing as I have lost some big carp at the net by them spooking when they see the head torch so this may be a worthwhile investment and I will add more info and video as the fishing season gets underway . The one issue I had was walking around it sometimes was a little uneven as the depth perception is lost but I have a feeling that two units may solve this and Nightfox sell a bar that enables two units to be mounted together although this would be an expensive setup to solve the dept perception issue so I'm undecided to fork out the extra as yet and I'll keep you updated on this . The aftersales from Nightfox is simply awsome and even answered emails on Christmas day I've never had that kind of service and it's a measure that company's should mark themselves by . All in all upto now its a good little unit that's well made well presented and packaged is easy to use and may well be able to help in landing more fish ,time will tell and I'll report more as its used so check back for more
