Kidde Fire Extinguisher for Boats, Single-Use 1A10BC

I bought these fire extinguishers to replace the ones on my boat that just reached their 12 year expiration date. These are US Coast Guard approved and comply with the safety equipment requirements aboard US flagged recreational boats. They are excellent quality and a reasonable price. Note that if you are replacing existing fire extinguishers that still appear to be in good condition you can keep the old ones on board as backups as long as you have the required number of current extinguishers on board as well. Remember that the USCG requirements are a bare minimum. Old extinguishers are most likely still good if all of the following check out: A.) The pressure gauge indicates that there is adequate pressure (i.e.- needle is in the green region) B.) The overall condition of the cylinder, nozzle and handle are still like new (no rust, dents, corrosion) C.) When you shake the fire extinguisher it should feel like it is full of fine sand. If the powder has solidified into a clump the easiest way to break it up again is to rotate the cylinder 90 degrees from how it had been sitting and then wait a few hours and check it again (if extinguisher was stored vertically then lay it on its side or vice -versa) After a few hours the powder should have unclumped and you should feel it moving around when you shake it. This is a good thing to do with all of your fire extinguishers both on your boat or at home as it will ensure that they work properly when needed. I routinely check all of mine about every 6 months. Stout fire extinguisher. Maintaining pressure after hundreds of rough miles on my RZR. Liked it so much I bought two. Easy enough to figure out. Great value for the money. They're not heavy either which is nice. Thankfully I haven't had to use them and hope never to.

This brand has set the standard in small fire extinguishers for a long time. These were replacements for the ones that have been on my boat for more than a decade. Value comes from the fact that you can rely on them. The size remained standard so I could have used the old brackets but the plastic gets brittle after a while so I use the new brackets that came with these. The holes didn't line up exactly so I had to drill one more hole but other than that, nothing more to do for another 12 years!

Suggest ignore the reference to boats, because the excellence of this Fire extinguisher is that it is rated for all fire types — ABC, all three. That’s what one wants for the kitchen. And I like the cool white color of the cylinder, actually attractive to have sitting on the back on the counter!

I am hoping to never need it. The mount is not the best if you mount this in an open smaller fishing boat. The lower part keeps bumping up and down. I bought a couple of straps that I screwed in. Yes it will take longer to get to it when needed but that is better than to have lost it during transport.

Fit in boat well

This is one of those products that you need to buy thinking you will never need it. I give it 5 stars because I have left it in my jar for over 4 months and it has not suffered from oxidation. I don't really know if the powder is the best but I suppose it is.
