Finding a good CDG supplier is always challenging as there's such a mixed bag in terms of quality and accuracy. Generally I find Mr Entertainer discs to be a mixed bag themselves. Some songs work really well others not so much so. It's also weird how some songs have the vocals in the background and some don't. A bit of consistency would not go amiss. These discs are great for the home Karakoe enthusiast and will help you by adding some more up to date tracks to your collection although if you really want to get a good start you'll want some discs with a wider selection of music and genres to ensure there's something for everyone. The disc played without issue on my laptop CDG software and my karaoke machine. The few songs I know from the tracks on these discs appeared to have the correct words and timing felt right for the most part. Music was quite good for a Karaoke CD so all-in-all I think it's a good buy.

Quite good instrumental production, a good bag of recent karaoke-ready hits
The CD-G format is technically very dated, it’s fom the mid 1980’s, and the picture quality on these CD-Rs (not glass-mastered CDs) is firmly in the 8-bit world and well under that of standard definition. The tech looks like it’s from the tail end of the twentieth century, rather than 2023, and honestly I’m a little surprised that companies are still putting out discs like this. But as long as there’s a market for it, and since the people actually wanting to do the karaoke are unlikely to care about such things, all power to them! The music selection, thankfully, is much more up to date. With a couple of exceptions (“Bad Habits” was released in 2021 for example), it’s mostly a collection of genuine 2023 tunes, and there are some strong and popular choices in there. There’s plenty of Radio 1 fodder, there’s “Barbie World” and “Padam Padam”, and there’s slightly quirkier stuff like Jack Black’s “Peaches” from the Mario Bros Movie. Plenty of crowd-pleasers, and a good range of tunes if you want your karaoke selection to have some of the brightest tunes from 2023’s top 40 in it. Some of the sounds aren’t too bad, by karaoke standards, and it’s quite well produced. A lot of the more piano ballad centric songs are reproduced faithfully but with a little bit of a homemade feel rather than full production polish. The drums in particular often sound a bit flimsy and rushed, “Vampire” being a poor example, and sometimes the overall sound aims for ‘minimal’ but accidentally goes to ‘weak and weedy’- like “Boy’s A Liar”. I know they may want to leave plenty of aural space in the mix to let the karaoke vocal shine, but that’s not always wise, and a bit of post-EQ’ing might be needed. Some of the more challenging electronic and EDM sounds, the producers have had a good crack at- the intro to “Tattoo” is a decent example, but the synth bass sound on “Unholy” much less so. Overall though, it does sound a little like a lot of the tracks could have been produced back in the 1990’s where the CDG format is from. There’s a bit of inconsistency as to whether the tracks have backing vocals or not- some do and some don’t. When there are backing vocals, they’re very very low in the mix- almost sounding like a mastering mistake rather than a useful backing singer to make the overall result sound good. “What I Was Made For”, the Billie Eilish cover, is an odd exception where the backing vocal is fairly loud. It’s worth mentioning that DVD players probably won’t play these discs- mine didn’t. If you have a dedicated karaoke disc player already, then great, but if you’re thinking “my DVD player will probably handle it”, it probably won’t. The most likely result is that it’ll play the music, like a regular audio CD, but you’ll get no on-screen text. However there is a Windows software solution, using Audiograbber, where you can turn the disc into CDG and MP3 or WAV files which will then play in a player like VLC Player. The brand’s own website even shows the steps needed to do this, so it must be legit and not frowned upon, and Freedb already knew the track names when I inserted the disc, which was handy. The card slipcase packaging is neat and conveniently small, good if you want to slide it into a holder alongside a bunch of other discs. The tracklist is reasonably easy to read even in low light conditions, for when you’re trying to cue up the next karaoke tune at a party, though I have seen clearer. To get your collection of karaoke tunes sounding a bit more current, this is a pretty good two-disc set, and for a bit of family karaoke fun, this is valuable to have for the kids who are getting a bit bored of all the 1980’s and retro tunes- even if the tech is as old as most of the retro tunes they’re bored of.

Leider sind diese CD zu 80% nur Musik und keine Mitgesungene- Texte. Wenn man die Titel nicht kennt, dann hat man Probleme. Alexander
