Does what it says on the box
Great for putting old HDDs to use after upgrading to SSD or NVMe drives, this device is super easy to operate—just slide off the top, place your hard drive into the holder, push it in, replace the lid, and you’re set. The power and USB cables are a convenient length, and the clear, easy-to-see on/off button makes it simple to use. It really brings old HDDs back to life. I have noticed it can get quite hot with prolonged use, but removing the top solves the issue. For a low cost, it’s a great way to repurpose your old drives.

Care about your data? Get this, works well in a high workload environment.
A very rugged bit of gear. I actually have just bought another one as it was on sale. I bought a load of server enterprise drives for cheap a while back and used it often to transfer data from those and other different drives. This enclosure is excellent and will NOT skip a beat. It is the Anker of Enclosures, a decent well made product.Little did I know a single one of these drives is now worth more than what I paid for for the set! I felt to put these as backup drives and one a hot external. I have a file server and ran out of drive connectors as it is a cheapo Celeron board. Not wanting to upgrade the motherboard just yet for a file server I popped one of these to the USB-3 port with one of these drives. It has been in use constantly and has had zero issues and does not skip a beat. I would trust this over a cheaper one and I have had corruption from cheaper units where a USB drive failed, I plugged in the backup drive to find that was corrupted by the cheaper enclosure requiring that I use the filesystem journal to recover (ExFAT would have been screwed in this case, meaning going to the offsite backup). The enclosure does NOT bottleneck allowing full USB 3 speeds. I get better write speeds with this and enterprise HDDs over QLC SSDs with a full cache, which happens often during my workloads, to the point I went back to enterprise HDDs. It has been in use in a rugged high workload environment and has not skipped a beat. The only bad bit: When using enterprise drives during very long writes, these drives get HOT, to the point they can be uncomfortable to hold naked when run in this unit which has no airflow. I have not observed this with consumer drives. So the one in the file server I leave the cover off to allow better airflow. If you want to use this with an enterprise drive, I would drill a few air holes for breathing. I think UGreen should add a tiny little fan for if you wish to use enterprise drives, but my usecase can sometimes result in 3+ TB of writes in a single session, so its a heavy usecase. All in all, a wonderful product that is both suited to consumer and prosumer use, though some caveats with the latter.

Works fine, but with several notable flaws and is poor value relative to its competition
This is an enclosure to take a 3.5" HDD and allows it to be connected via USB.The drive has a 12V DC centre-positive barrel jack to power it, and connects via a USB Type-B connector.Whilst Type-B is pretty uncommon, a good quality USB-B male to USB-A male cable is included. The enclosure itself is made of plastic, and whilst it does feel like a good quality plastic, the product doesn't feel like as high quality of a product as a metal enclosure. There is a tiny line of holes under the front of the drive - presumably to allow some cooling for the SATA-USB controller inside, however the HDD area has no holes at all, and combined with the plastic surround the drive inside does get very hot under sustained usage. You open the drive by simply sliding the top cover off - this is extremely easy to do, to the point of being problematic - Whilst I can hold up the enclosure by the cover and the rest of it won't slide out from under it, I have had a few times where I have picked up the enclosure and the cover has come off instead. If you are just going to be leaving this on a desk or something then it works fine, however if you are going to be moving the drive around, then this is a bad design.I would have liked to see a screw hole or something to securely hold the top cover in place. To get a 3.5" HDD inside, you have to angle the HDD and then push it into the SATA connectors. This did not feel good, and I got the impression that if you did this repeatedly you could quickly damage the connector on your drive - this is an enclosure for drives that will stay in it, you won't want to hot-swap drives around using this thing due to the potential stress the connector receives when connecting a drive. There is also nothing to hold the drive in securely either - some other [better] enclosures have screw holes to securely hold the drive in place, however this UGreen does not - there is some foam on either side to keep the drive centred, however there is like a centimetre of empty space behind the drive, so if handled badly the drive could slide about inside the enclosure which could damage the connectors - I don't think it's likely to do so under normal usage or handling, but it's not secure or rigidly held in place at all. There is a dedicated power switch on the top of the device next to the blue status light.I'd personally have preferred the power switch on the end of the enclosure, as being on the top means I can't put anything on top of the enclosure, and you couldn't stack these enclosures, as that would cover the power button. Similarly, the power button does protrude, and placing things on top of the enclosure can depress the power button, which is just a horrendous design choice. The power button is also very large, and can easily be pressed accidentally, and I have pressed it a few times accidentally whilst handling the drive, so try to avoid moving or handle the drive whilst it is on - whilst most people would naturally do this with an HDD, because of this power button this advice also applies in case you have an SSD inside as well.Since I was using a mechanical hard drive in this enclosure, I wasn't able to max out the USB 3.0 connection, but the enclosure was able to do 200MB/s just fine over long periods - the drive inside did get very hot though, due to the complete lack of any cooling of the drive in the sealed plastic enclosure. The enclosure does have a blue LED activity light.Whilst this is fine, since I don't want to put anything on top of the drive in case it presses the power button, the light is basically always visible unless I place the enclosure against a wall or something. The light is fine, but the light combined with the poor power button design feels bad, as there's no way to turn the light off whilst the enclosure is in use, but you also don't want to cover it.Overall, this enclosure does work fine. This enclosure has many flaws; the fully plastic design combined with no cooling holes means the drive gets hot, the power button design is bad, the slide cover design is poor, the HDD can rattle about inside as it can't be screwed into place, the method of installing a HDD feels like it stresses the connector...If you just want an HD enclosure though it does work, and my HDD worked perfectly whilst inside.Despite that, I paid around £21 for this enclosure, however as of writing this review it's now around £25 (£28 with a £3 voucher). At the same time as I got this enclosure, I also got a Sabrent enclosure (Amazon ASIN code: B08J5SLTJX), which is just better in every way - It's metal and has some holes so it cools the drive much better and feels vastly sturdier, it's got a power switch on the end that can't be accidentally pressed, the cover has a button to hold it on so it can't just slide off, the HDD can be securely screwed into place, and I paid £31 for that enclosure, which isn't really that much more than the £25 this one currently costs. This Ugreen enclosure is cheaper, but I'd very much recommending you spend the little bit extra to get the Sabrent - it's a vastly better product for only a relatively small extra increase in cost. This Ugreen enclosure works, but it's too expensive for what it is relative to it's competition - it it comes down in price relative to the better enclosures offered by its competitors then it might become good value, but as it stands currently it's just not good value compared to its competition, so only get it if it's on sale, cheap, or you really can't/won't spend the extra to get a better enclosure - for like £15 this might be good value, but for the £25 it currently sells for you should just buy the Sabrent instead.

Good value and does the job well.
Very good price and easy to use. Insert hard drive plug in to mains and computer and away you go. Quite well made but my only slight complaint is that the lid does not lock very firmly and slides open when the caddy is picked up. A bit of tape sorts the problem but doesn't look too good! Apart from this minor carp I can fully recommend this caddy.

5/5 Definitely get this if you need an enclosure. Great brand. Would recommend.
Been using this for my external drive from my PC to connect it to my Mac. Installing my hard drive inside it was very easy as it also comes with instructions in case you need them.I replaced the cable it came with as I needed one that connected to USB C whilst this was a standard USB 3.0, so I won't say this is a negative as this was purely for my needs. The enclosure is made from plastic, but that's to be expected as there's no need to use high quality materials for the enclosure as the price would go up more. What matters is that it works for what it is intended for. When not in use, you can safely eject the hard drive on your PC/Mac and then turn it off on the enclosure to prevent it from starting up when not needed. Also, this being from UGREEN, I knew I could trust it as I've bought many things from them as they've always been reliable.

Very useful device
I had very specific requirements which led to me purchasing this, but in short the main reason I got it is because it was the only SATA mount I could find on Amazon that was mains powered rather than bus powered. This was essential because I have a 2011 iMac with the now redundant Thunderbolt 2 port. These ports do not supply bus power, so if I wanted to take advantage of the higher speeds of Thunderbolt 2 (via an adaptor) and use modern SSD drives, I needed something like this. The plan worked. The unit itself is quite large, owing to the fact that it also accommodates both 3.5" and 2.5" drives. I only use the smaller size SSD drive, but this actually means there is more air around it so aiding in cooling. It's all very simple to assemble and it's plug and play. No technical expertise is required, it's no more complicated than setting up any kind of disk drive from the olden days!It comes with a 12v mains supply (with 13amp UK plug on the one I bought here in the UK). There is also a USB 3 cable - configured with USB-B on the unit side and USB-A to plug the device into a computer (or in my case a Thunderbolt 2 adaptor). There is power button and a blue LED to indicate the mains power is on.I'm not a very technical person in terms of specs and benchmark tests etc, and I'm sure there are other reviewers who will provide that data. Suffice to say, there is a noticeable difference in the speed of this setup compared to the old HDD I had plugged into the slow USB 2 ports on the iMac.Essentially I've upgraded an old mac to a modern standard. (I'll also be replacing the internal boot drive with an SSD, but that's another story).Another benefit of this, is that I can switch out the SSD drive I bought with it to other drives. For example, the old internal HDD drive I'm taking out of the Mac, can now be used as an external drive for backups etc. If I need to buy more SSD drives in the future, I can save money and just get internal SATA ones rather than the more expensive USB-C external drives. All in all, I'm really happy with this set-up. I've revived an old iMac which was on the verge of redundancy, and have given myself lots of neat options for future memory expansion. And it wasn't exactly expensive!

Relatively cheap and effective unit
Bought to house Seagate 3.5" 3TB HDD originally from a failed LaCie external drive used as a Mac Time Machine backup solution. Comes with USB3.0A style connector, so USB A to USB C adapter was required for my Mac Pro. Very easy to setup, up and running within 5 minutes. Worked exactly as expected. Relatively quiet in operation. Housing is largely plastic, so not especially robust/durable (manual says not to drop it!), but more than adequate for desktop backup. Power cable is about 1.5m long, and USB cable is about 1m long. Not used for long periods, so not sure how it would stand up to that. Consider it value for money.

Portability for HDD
I purchased this to use with a WD Green 3.5 inch HDD, and this has worked absolutely perfectly. The required cables come with the enclosure, it is light and feels of good quality, and did exactly as was required. No complaints!

Perfect for what I needed it for !
This was a completely painless process - the enclosure is really sturdy and clean looking. I’m using this for a home file server with a 8tb HDD inside and I’ve had absolutely 0 issues with it !Great price , great product 100% recommend !

Quality well designed HDD enclosure
Bought this to replace 9 year old enclosure. The product came in a nice quality packing with an usb 3.0 cable and power supply. The product is designed well and simple to install. It holds the HDD in place with rubber foam support, no screws for installation. The finishing is good and feels like an expensive enclosure. Looks nice on my desk. It's made of quality plastic. I am very satisfied with this enclosure.
