This palette has 18 easy to clean paint wells; each with a width of 1-7/8 inch and plenty of mixing space in the center. The Big Well Palette will allow the use of larger brushes. Mad with the same rugged plastic as the original John Pike palette; with outer dimensions being 10-1/2 x 15 inches. Comes with a sturdy lid that snaps closed to keep your paints clean. Review: Very good size. Easy to open and close and lots of surface for mixing paints - Great palette. Review: Perfect Palette! - This palette has large paint wells and plenty of area in the center for mixing colors. Excellent when mixing colors to produce colors rich pigment, washes, and glazes. The cover can also be used to mix paints. Iโm very happy with this purchase and the plastic material the palette is made from is sturdy and should last for many years.

Four Stars
Nice and strong! A bit difficult to open but our granddaughter seemed to handle it OK. Nice big wells.

Great palette!
Lots of space to mix paint & make a large puddle for painting washes. It is a studio palette not a travel palette for me because of the size. The lid is good because it keeps paint clean. Worth the money!

50 Years Of Use
I bought my first John Pike palette in the early 1970s, and have used it since then. Unfortunately, in January of 2021, it was becoming a little too stained and difficult to clean, so I splurged and bought a new one, which will easily outlast me. I simply would not use any other palette for working in watercolors. And weโre not talking about 50 years of occasional use. I worked as a designer in theatre and special events during that time, taught classes, and painted landscapes continually. The palette has been with me through graduate school and working professionally, across the USA and back, and now into retirement. This is the best palette for watercolors there is, in my opinion.

I know these have been used and recommended for years. UPDATED to A 5 star.
I know these have been used and recommended for years. So I got one. Yes it does what everyone says. It's going to bead up until it gets a good 'used' surface to it. But what I wasn't expecting was it getting permanently stained. It's sucking in colors as fast as watercolor paper. UPDATE. From a three star to a five. Being new to watercolor I didn't know there are paints that naturally stain. And naturally Phtho Green and Diox Purple was the first colors I'd play with. A good magic eraser an the stains are all gone. Live and learn. The wells are deep enough to hold both solid color and wet. Yes when you first get them the water will bead up. But that's an easy fix. Plenty of information on Youtube on that.

but it seems to be such a nice palette with the large color wells
I have not had a chance to use it yet, but it seems to be such a nice palette with the large color wells. I have prepared it by gently scrubbing with a bit of cleanser to slightly roughen the surface so that the paint won't bead up on the palette. There were instructions included to help with removing the lid, so it was no problem. They also suggest keeping the paint away from the edges where it might adhere that might make opening more difficult. I think it is going to be perfect for my use.
