I bought two of these; one to give at a company white elephant gift exchange party, and another to give to a friend as a gag gift My co-workers and my friend both got a big kick out of this clever gadget. (I installed batteries before wrapping the gifts so that the useless box would be operational as soon as they unwrapped it.) This gadget is quite amusing. As soon as you click the switch, the box opens partially for just a second, while this plastic armature protrudes and bumps the switch, turning it off. It does this very quickly, which is part of the amusement. Turn it on, and "CLICK!: it quickly shuts itself off! That's ALL it does! Thus, the reason it's called a Useless Box! The box does have a little bit of space inside it, so you could store small items like jewelry or keys in it if you really wanted to. If you've got a friend or loved one who's maybe a bit nerdy or has a good sense of humor, this gadget would make the perfect gag gift.

I got this last year for my nephew for Christmas as a kind of novelty gift. It worked well. I put batteries in before wrapping it so it would be functional when he opened it. It got some laughs. That's about it. It's probably nice for something like an office desk where new people might be seeing it often.

Bought one for my sister’s wedding gift. She had it on her registry. Was great fun tried before giving to her. Bought a second for a friend and it didn’t work at all. Tried a few sets of batteries but never worked. Didn’t give gift until after return period ended. 😞 UPDATE tried one more set of batteries and flipped the switch circled in pic and it works. Yay Christmas is saved!! It’s for a Christmas present 🎁

I bought this for my classroom as my kids love to fidget and play with things on my desk. I bought this one as it was a nice price for my purpose. I was very impressed with the quality. Both the box itself and the electronic components are of great quality and it is well put together. My students have loved it so far.

I purchased this as a gag gift for my wife's birthday. It arrived looking okay, well packaged and all. But after installing batteries (and yes they were fresh!), it would do nothing. I know enough electronics that I will be able to diagnose and repair it -- but I should not need to do this. And, needless to say, it did spoil the moment. Buyers should expect that they may need to tinker with it in order for it to work. And since there are choices on Amazon to get this, you might want to look at others.

I bought this once before in 2022 and it stopped working almost immediately. So it has truly been a useless box for 4 years. I loved it though. Would still recommend it. I plan to get another one. Hopefully this one works.
