Can I use only the light and turn off the sounds?

Yes, there are two separate buttons, either for alarm (which triggeres both sound and light) and light. If you set the alarm, it will activate light and sound at the time set, but you can shut off the sound by pressing the alarm button once, the light will stay on. You can't set the light to lit up at a time by itself.

Can you adjust the volume of the wake-up noises? Apparently on the HF3500, you cannot adjust the volume of the wake-up beeper. What about this model?

There are FM radio and 2 wake up sounds. According to the Philips site: "The selected sound gradually increases in volume to your selected level." This would imply that the wake up sound is indeed selectable.
