Ocean's 13 (4K UHD/Steelbook)

Loved the movie back in Las Vegas.. Al Pacino was a great addition.

In the mode of Sinatra & Sammy Davis Jr's rat pack, George Clooney and Brad Pitt star in the Ocean series, ribbing casinos in nifty ways. I bought this because my dear cousin Ruth was an extra, standing at a pool table, in a red evening gown, long, lean dark haired, a stand out young lady who loved Hollywood. Will miss her forever.

Ocean's Thirteen is a good movie. It's more like the first movie (Eleven) and was 100% better than the second movie (Twelve). The plot centered on a business deal between Willy Banks (Al Pacino) and Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould) going bad. Willy led Reuben to believe he would be his partner in Willy's new Las Vegas Casino. Willy double-crossed Reuben which caused Reuben to have a heart attack. Danny Ocean and the guys devised a plan to get back at Willy. The movie takes us through their plan to ruin Willy by bankrupting his casino. In the middle of this plan, they run short of money and go to Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia from the first movie) to ask for money. Terry doesn't like Willy so he agrees with one condition. The condition was Danny & the guys have to steal a diamond necklace that Willy has in a display case. Willy had received this necklace the year before as a prize for winning the Best Casino award. Terry Benedict wanted to get this necklace because he knew how much it meant to Willy. A sub-plot was that Danny didn't want Willy to win this year's "Best Casino" award so they set up a plan to make sure he wouldn't win. **Spoiler** In the end - Danny & the guys succeeded at bankrupting Willy and stealing the necklace. Terry Benedict tried to double cross Danny by stealing the necklace from Matt Damon but Danny was ready and the guy stole a fake necklace instead. Danny donated the real necklace to a charity in Terry's name. The movie was entertaining from start to finish !

How can miss with these great personalities, and that all did a fine job, not just BE in the picture. Matt Damon and Ellen Barkin together made a funny pair- if you've never seen this movie you may laugh your head off at their dialogue towards the end. From start to finish this film delivered serious comedy. It's a heist, comedy, thriller, caper and crime story all in one and it delivers on all categories.

I once heard George Clooney say that he does movies like the "Ocean's" to enable him to do films like "Good Night and Good Luck," etc. What makes him even more admirable is the quality of the former. All of the Ocean's films are smart, classy, clever and highly entertaining. While "Ocean's 12" wasn't quite as sharp as "11," the group is back in form for "Ocean's 13." All of the original characters are back (except for Julia Roberts), and this time Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin are in the mix. Both enter the mix well, retaining their own power. Matt Damon enjoys a larger piece of this story and his performance is wonderful. As a 60's child, I saw the original Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin et al "Ocean's 11" when I was a kid. Although I was much too young to appreciate their musical gifts, I knew they were a big deal. Their gift for making the audience feel like they were part of the secret has been replicated in the Clooney versions, which accounts for a lot of the success of these films. The characters are charming, the plot lines clever and the overall experience is fun. I have to think Frank would be pleased with these new incarnations!

Mir ist absolut klar, der Film heißt Ocean's Thirteen, also Ocean's 13, aber nachdem es mit Ocean's Eleven als erstem Teil begonnen hat, ist das also praktisch Teil Drei und ich musste ins Kino und nach gefühlten sechs Stunden Werbung begann auch der Film mit einem Blick über die beeindruckende Skyline von Las Vegas und dann in ein riesiges Büro und die Geschichte, die auch wieder Steven Soderbergh erzählen will, beginnt Reuben, der Ziehvater von Danny Ocean hat Streit mit Willy Bank (ein grandios spielender Al Pacino), einem skrupellosem Finanzhai, der ihm sein Hotel samt Casino abgejagt hat und bricht mit einem schweren Herzanfall zusammen und an seinem Krankenbett treffen sich die Ocean's 12 und schwören finstere Rache. Da das nun aber keine Mantel und Degen Geschichte ist, sondern eine Komödie, die noch dazu in Las Vegas spielt, geht es also nicht ums Blut, sondern um Geld, was sie dem gierigen Willy Bank in möglichst großer Menge abgaunern können. Aber um so etwas zu können, muss man viel Geld einsetzen und da kommt der 12. Mann ins Spiel, der als Bedingung nur ein paar bestimmte Diamanten wollte, um die es dann auch eine ausgetüftelte und sehr unterhaltende Geschichte gibt. Geldgeber und Danny Oceans 13. Mann ist Terry Benedict, der abgezockte Hotelbesitzer aus 'Ocean's Eleven' und dann sind 122 Minuten großes Kino mit irrwitzigen und sehr überraschenden Ideen am Laufen und keine Minute davon ist langweilig. Steven Soderbergh ist (wieder) eine sehr gute Fortsetzung gelungen und das hat er dann seinen Kollegen Sam Raimi mit *Spiderman* nicht sehr gelungen war und wie ich hörte und las, Gore Verbinski mit *Fluch der Karibik* nicht so gelungen sein soll. Soderbergh hat es geschafft, eine Fortsetzung. An der Seite des gewohnt glänzend aufspielenden Al Pacino hat Ellen Barkin eine glänzende Rolle und ein tragendes Element waren auch diesmal wieder Maske und Kostüme, die teilweise wieder abenteuerlich komische Verkleidungen dem Auge des Zuschauers boten. Die Art und Weise, wie Willy Bank um sein heiß geliebtes Geld gebracht wird, war nicht nur einfallsreich, sondern teilweise auch markerschütternd komisch und ging sogar hin bis zu einem künstlich erzeugten Erdbeben, mit dem die kontrollierende Technik von Willy Bank ausgeschaltet wird, wobei Willy Bank natürlich ganz gepflegt ausrastet und wer Al Pacino kennt, weiß, was für ein unterhaltsamer Anblick das ist. Das Ende ist offen für einen weiteren Teil, ein Ocean's 14, aber bei Steven Soderbergh kann das nur auch wieder gut sein. Er hat halt ein Händchen dafür. Anders als beim Spiderman war diesmal auch ich sehr gut unterhalten und so bekommt auch dieses kleine Meisterwerk der Unterhaltung ein *Sehr gut*, also 10/10 Punkte von mir. Kaufbefehl an mich und an meiner Leser für die DVD.
