Last week I turned on the radio and I caught the last minute and a half of this song that really caught my attention. What a brilliant song. Much to my surprise, the announcer said it was the Goombay Dance Band and gave the title of the song as Seven Tears. I never heard of the group or the song before then. I was so taken by the song that I ordered their greatest hits CD not knowing what I was in for. What a surprise I got. This CD is full of happy songs that will cheer you up if you're down or will make you want to get up and dance. This entire CD has some of the best songs on it. I don't care much for Love and Tequila or Monkey. They're a bit too heavy for me. The only mellow, ballad song on the CD is Day After Day which is a beautiful love song. If you are the sensitive type, then have the tissue ready when this song comes on. The songs on this CD are brilliant. There's a mixture of calypso, reggae, Carribbean, and a European flavor too it. The European touch is probably because the lead singer and his wife are from Germany. Some of ABBA's songs have that European touch to it and with the Goombay Dance Band's music, you get a touch of that European flavor to it. I even caught myself thinking "that sounds a bit like ABBA". Don't be fooled by my comments though. This CD is nothing like ABBA. It only has a mild ABBA touch to a couple of the songs. If you've never heard of this band before or the song Seven Tears, you'll love this CD. I bought the CD just for Seven Tears and I didn't even hear the entire song on the radio and I fell in love with it. I've listened to it over and over again. You'll probably do the same.

Heard a track on the radio I had to order it. I wasn’t disappointed, superb cd.

This wonderful and refreshing group made one big mistake - they hit the top of the UK singles chart with the wrong song. I first heard them singing Sun Of Jamaica in Rhodes in 1980 and was instantly captivated by the sheer atmosphere of the track. Oliver Bendt has a wonderful clear and powerful voice and they blend insistent rhythms with strong melodies. Everything about them leads me to think of holidays, beautiful beaches , palm trees and the like. Having failed to hit the UK charts with Jamaica, they finally made it big with the maddeningly chirpy Seven Tears in 1982. Whilst this number has a certain appeal, the band are much better than that. Every track on here is a pleasure, highlights would be Sun Of Jamaica, Eldorado, Aloha Oe, Jericho and Santorini Goodbye. They mix self-penned numbers with traditional stuff. If you want a CD to take you away to a Caribbean island on a cold winter night - or any time of year - give this a go. 20 great tracks from Amazon at a reasonable price - a pure delight from a vastly underrated band.

I believe it was coming from Switzerland which took just over two weeks which was fine arrived well packaged and in good condition . The disc it's self can be compared to Bony-M Light reggae music and to be honest ideal to do my morning dance exercise. There's twenty tracks but I do admit after about track sixteen they all started to sound the same, it has all there known songs on . So to recap good service ,the postage was cheaper than the UK being you have to wait,easy listening and enjoyable cd

Not many people have heard tracks by the Goombay Dance Band other than "Seven Tears". Having purchased this album, I must say I enjoyed the 17 other tracks more than their "big hit". They are mostly up-tempo, happy numbers ideal for that Summer party. They have been likened to Boney M (but without that bloke who sounds as though his voice has broken TWICE!)...I think they have more of the Jamaican feel to their music. A great purchase...this album features all original (Epic) tracks; beware some other albums are not original recordings. Right, I'm ready for the rum and coke...get the limbo pole ready..on second thoughts..

I was not familiar with this group. I heard one their songs on a CD with several other artists. On the strength of this one song (El Dorado) I searched Amazon and found the "Best of the Goombay Dance Band" ordered and loved it. The group has a 30 year anniversary CD. Unfortunately this CD t was re-recorded and has not the same voices as the original group. Otherwise they would have made another sale.
