They work. I hate them. Can go off during normal cooking. Triggered by vape. I'm sure if you are an in door smoker it will go off for those too. They are fine as it's only once in a while. 5 star because they do work. Better to be over sensitive than not sensitive enough I guess.

This is our favorite smoke detector. They are reliable and have great reviews. They work when they need to and we trust them. This is our second one. Our first one lasted 7 years and we were happy with it, so we purchased it again. When this product needs to be replaced it will start beeping very loudly and not stop until it is taken down and disconnected. It was actually cheaper to purchase here on amazon rather than buying it in the store. Installation is very easy, just remove the packaging and hang it up.

Just installed it, so can't comment as to whether it functions as intended, but whoever designed the mounting bracket was either incompetent or a sociopath. Bought this 20SD10 model to replace a Kidde i12060A that lasted 10 months (not years) before it started chirping randomly in the middle of the night, even with a fresh battery. The mounting plate for the prior model does not work with this unit. Perhaps there is a good reason for it. HOWEVER, the holes for the mounting plate are at a different distance from each other than with the prior plate, AND a different distance than the standard ceiling receptacle. Moreover plates like this typically have a larger hole that fits over the head of a bolt that has been slightly unscrewed and can then be twisted so that the bolt can be tightened. This eases installation. This plate requires both bolts to be entirely unscrewed (not a trivial task with a ten-foot ceiling while on a ladder) and then screwed in while the plate is obscuring the bolt holes. The ceiling receptacle has pre-drilled (actually molded) holes that are 2 and 3/4 inches apart and 3 and 1/4 inches apart, as did the prior 2 Kidde detectors. I was able to mount this off-center but wish the Kidde engineers had asked a builder or electrician what might work or at least made a standard mounting plate that fit their entire line of smoke detectors or maybe took a look at some of their prior designs. What could have been a 30 second replacement turned into nearly an hour.

I bought this smoke alarm mainly because I wanted something low-maintenance, and the 10-year battery was a big selling point. Installation was quick and straightforward it only took a few minutes and came with everything I needed. What I like most is not having to worry about changing batteries all the time. It’s one of those things you install and forget about, but still feel safer knowing it’s there. The alarm itself is loud enough to definitely get your attention, which is exactly what you want in an emergency. The design is pretty basic and doesn’t stand out too much, which I actually prefer. It blends in well with the ceiling and doesn’t look bulky. So far, it’s been working exactly as expected with no issues. Overall, it does what it’s supposed to do without any hassle, and that’s really all I was looking for.

I bought a 3 pack Kidde Detect (Model 20SD10) to replace Kidde Model KN-COSM-1BA. Please note that this is only a Smoke Detector. If you need a Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector, you’ll need a different model. I never realized that smoke detectors will expire after 10 years. I thought that you just need to keep changing batteries every so often and you’re good to go. But unfortunately, it’s not the case. Have you ever wondered why it has a live wire and battery connections together? It’s pretty redundant right? Well it turns out that on the normal, you’re relying on the electricity. Only when the electricity goes out, the reliance on the battery kicks in. PRO: 1. You can install this anywhere in your home. It doesn’t require a live wire connection (electricity connection) and the only power source is the battery. 2. The traditional smoke detectors require a battery change (AA or 9V) every year or so. This is a 10 year battery! Hopefully it will last as long as they say. No more low battery chirps! CON: 1. The bracket provided is not the same size as my previous bracket Model KN-COSM-1BA. It’s smaller. Why?! Regardless what model they make, they should have the same bracket for their entire line. FINAL VERDICT: I would not recommend buying this to replace an older model because you possibly have to makeshift the bracket like I did. If you have an existing live wire connected, you can buy a different Model that also allows a live wire connection with a 10 year battery. On the other hand, this would benefit you if you need smoke detectors and you don’t have an existing live wire connection.

Great replacement or as an additional smoke alarm. Easy to install and the 10 year battery provides a great length of time before needing to be replaced.

1 of the 3 is already defective after 2 months, it started chirping at 4am giving my dog severe panic attacks, which was the whole reason I bought it so that I wouldn't get low battery alerts all the time. EDIT: Kidde warranty is amazing, after calling them they are mailing a replacement with no hassle.

I like the 10 year battery feature. I don’t have to worry about my battery running down or working out for 10 years. I did put the year purchased on the inside of the unit, so I would remember in 10 years when I actually purchased it
