JapanBargain, Set of 2 Chinese Baoding Balls Hand Exercise Therapy Balls Stress Reliefe Balls, (Blue)

Having read various product reviews on Chinese healthy balls and having sampled some sets of them for myself, I decided to give this set of balls a try too. I thought it might be nice to have this extra set for my office. I also wanted to have a pair of Chinese balls that featured a different design than my other ones. Chinese healthy balls are meant to be a kind of personal relaxation / skill building therapy. The ideas of stress relief, of increased dexterity, and of pain reduction for working / busy hands appealed to me because I do a lot of computer work and other specific handiwork that requires limber, strong hands. Being interested in world cultures, Eastern ideas, and art, I loved the Yin Yang / MANDALA designs. This ball set arrived in a nice, red storage box, which could also serve as a display. Each of these balls was smooth and heavy. Inside the storage box, there was a direction booklet, "Iron Ball Direction," which contained text in both Chinese and English. The statement from this booklet that captured my attention was this: "Of a pair of balls, one sounds high and one low." That fact just begged to be tested--just as I had tested my other Chinese balls! :) I discovered that this YIN YANG set was very different from the other ball set (phoenix / dragon) that I had. In this Yin Yang set, one ball produced the resonating, bright bell-like sound that I expected from a meditation ball. The other ball produced a sound that was definitely lower, almost thud like, as if it were mute or as if it wasn't perfect or as if something wasn't quite right inside. I had read a review somewhere on Amazon about a product similar to this that had the same "affliction," and the reviewer believed that the product might have had a defect inside that spoiled the sound. However, the more I thought about this, the more I wondered if this so-called affliction was actually an intended feature for the "personality" of this particular ball set: Yin Yang... a study and / or recognition of opposites, the duality in the world. What could be more opposite from a resonating ring than a muted thud? As I played with each ball separately and then together, examining them carefully for any visible damage, I began to belief that this was the case; Yin and Yang were intentionally present in sound in this set. No affliction! :) [The balls had been shipped nicely, and the storage box was in fine shape. There was nothing to indicate a problem / defect or any mistreatment. ] Except for the sound, the thudding ball operated in my hand the same as the resonating ball. When I move the balls, I can feel their unique vibrations passing from the metal into my hand. These vibrations do have a calming affect. The opposite nature of these balls offers the meditator a subtle reminder of things operating in harmony and balance. Some people may NOT like this aspect of this particular ball set; I recommend that they try the phoenix / dragon set, where both balls produce resonating ball-like tones. These healthy balls are worth getting if you want to treat your hands to gentle, but effective exercises. Note: if you have small hands, these balls might be a handful, especially if your a a beginner to this type of therapy. Small-handed people might prefer to begin with smaller balls such as those in the Running Press Zen Meditation Balls mini kit, which is available on Amazon.

these are awesome for stress relieving

I first bought a pair of Baoding Balls at the China Pavillion in Epcot, but rather than just being metal, they had a glass exterior. One of them cracked which made it harder to spin them, so I bought these as a replacement. I enjoy them a lot! They can be difficult to spin at first (in the video you see me struggle a bit, mainly because i'm using my left hand and I typically spin them with my right) but with a little practice, it gets addictive. I have what you could call "nervous hands" and I just love having stuff like this in my hands. The size was pretty good for my hands, but I have pretty stubby fingers, so if you have bigger hands, consider a size bigger than these. I did notice that one ball is just slightly larger than the other, so I must say that the product is a little inconsistent, but it really doesn't effect much except for the sound. As for the sound, the ringing sounds of the bells inside are very pleasant, but some may mind the clanking and scraping sounds of the outer metal (the sound is sort of similar to the sound of those buzzing magnet toys, but to a lesser extent) but I honestly sort of enjoy it and it doesn't really bother me. The outer metal does seem like it'll tarnish over time, but it shouldn't effect the quality of the balls. If it concerns you anyway, these are affordable enough to buy another pair. As many noted, the box isn't the best quality, but it holds them just fine. The shipping was prompt and the package came to me unharmed. Overall, i'm quite happy with these :)

Exactly as described and advertised. Perfect for working on my arthritic hand—I ordered two so that I could exercise both hands at once.

I ordered this as a gift for my son. What a disappointment. The package came crushed and taped together. The sender couldn't be bothered to have packed them such that the fragile (and very cheap) boxes the balls come in would not be crushed. They were sent in a flimsy mailer with not ever so much as some bubble wrap. Furthermore, as another unhappy customer has noted, the balls are scuffed and pitted with rust in places. And further still, the thing that I love about these balls is the nice, soft dong song they make while you rotate them in your hand. These balls, however, hardly make any sound. They're hardly fit to be described as ding dong bells! Maybe my humor will give them a little saving grace but don't be fooled. If nothing else, at least the sender could have made sure the boxes would hold up in the mail. The product cannot be returned. It's too bad that we live in such an indifferent world.

I have been using "Baoding Ball" for (30) years. I have (3) sets of (2) inch balls. Since that time, I have learned a few things about "Baoding Ball". They are constructed by welding a small flattened wire ring to the interior surface of one half of a thick hollow metal sphere. A glass marble is inserted and the two halves of the sphere are welded together, smoothed out and metal plated. I deducted (2) stars from this smaller (1.5) inche set of balls for the following reasons. 1. They are extremely lightweight. It's the weight of the balls moving as you manipulate them in your hand that provides the exercise that improves your dexterity. The weight of the balls moving around each other in your hand is also very soothing. Their lack of weight interferes with your sense of proprioception. 2. Traditionally, the smooth surface of "Baoding Balls" rubbing against each other is imperceptible. Only the soft chiming sound of the interior metal ring and the marble are noticed. These balls produce a grinding sound as they roll against each other. I don't know if it's the exterior metal coating or if it's the thinness of the sphere wall.

I know this doesn't seem like much of a review but i'm merely attempting to let everyone know about the product in general as I do agree with the other reviews. The exercise balls came in a nice small package in a very timely manner and there were no visible signs of damage, dings or dents. They also have a nice soothing chiming sound that is not obnoxious. The balls themselves are shiny and smooth and do roll perfectly in your hands with ease. (Note if you drop them on hard surfaces they will dent/ding. HOWEVER, this will not diminish their performance as I already dinged mine by accidentally dropping one on cement from like 4 feet up.) For the price, these are a very good deal and I have no issues or complaints.
