Better than expected quality and features.

Great little toy. Too bad that the vpn setup is flimsy and that I had to resort to manually uploading configuration files to make it work with NordVPN.

I've been using the GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) for a few weeks now, and I'm genuinely impressed. This compact router packs serious features that are perfect for both home use and travel. What I mostly love is the VPN Split Routing feature is a game changer. The ability to route specific traffic through VPN while letting other traffic bypass it is fantastic. I have my private network traffic (192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x ranges) going through the VPN for security, while streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, and social media apps bypass the VPN for full speed. Setting this up was straightforward through the web interface. Also, the GL.iNet interface is clean and intuitive. Even if you're not super technical, you can get VPN configured in minutes. For advanced users like me, the full OpenWrt/LuCI access gives you complete control with SSH access and package management. Around €80, this router offers incredible value. If you're someone who needs secure access, especially if you value privacy, need VPN capabilities, or travel frequently, this one's for you!

I bought this at the recommendation of a friend even though I thought at the time it was a bit pricey for what it is. I was wrong. I've configured many routers in my day and this one is among the easiest and most intuitive, while also offering an incredible amount of depth for power users. I used it recently on a Royal Caribbean cruise. You pay per-device and cannot share the connection with your phone because you can't repeat wireless signals with a phone and so that's where this came in. This router, without any special configuration, allowed me to use repeater mode to log onto the wifi signal (including a web-based RCCL sign-in page), pretend to be my iPhone, and then share the signal so that my wife, my 2 children and myself could share a single connection. It worked BEAUTIFULLY. I connected it to a 20,000 mAh USB-C battery and could walk around with it on the ship like my own mobile hotspot - I never fully drained the battery but estimate it would have lasted at least 24 hours. The range was excellent and worked from at least 75' away despite being on a cruise made of metal (probably further, but that's the furthest I went). Now that I'm back home, I reconfigured it to be a range extender to help extend my existing mesh network out to the front of my house, and again for such a small router, the range is excellent. Very happy with this purchase. I highly recommend this for travel purposes.
