The Brothers Hawthorne (The Inheritance Games, 4)

Awesome book!

“It always came down to power and control—who had them, who didn’t, who would lose them first” ✨ ✨ The Brothers Hawthorne is a spin off continuation of The Inheritance Games focusing on two of the Hawthorne brothers as opposed to Avery. On one hand, we have Greyson raised to be the Hawthorne Heir and to protect his family. He’ll have to do just that when his half-sisters find themselves in need of help. Can he manage it though without getting moored in emotional entanglements? On the other hand, we have Jameson, the ordinary brother who has always had to be ‘more’ to keep up with his siblings. When Jameson’s birth father shows up with an offer, Jameson can’t resist the opportunity to join an illustrious game. However, does he have what it takes to get the offer and win? ✨ ✨ Barnes has managed to pull us back into the world of the Hawthornes by offering up two of the fan favorite brothers as the lead characters. I will admit, I was immediately intrigued to learn more about Greyson, since I was rooting for him through most of the Inheritance Games. Unfortunately, I found myself wanting to go back to Jameson’s POV instead of Greyson’s POV. Not that I don’t find Greyson to be an interesting character, I just missed the puzzle aspect that I loved from the Inheritance Games. The mystery was interesting, but it was more of a face value mystery. Yes, there were puzzles but not to the degree of Jameson’s story. Which leads in to how much I enjoyed Jameson’s POV including the snippets of his background that helped shape who Jameson became. I really loved when we got to see Jameson do battle on his own - no siblings, no Avery, just him. I also enjoyed getting to work through the puzzles alongside Jameson to find the keys and boxes. The main detractor for me keeping this from being a 5 star read was how it it felt disjointed between the two brothers. The epilogue helped tie the two plot lines together but up to that point, it felt like two separate stories. It’s still enjoyable, and I fully plan to read the next book in the series.

I'm a little disappointed that a book called The Brothers Hawthorne was still mostly about Gray and Jamie just like all the previous books, when Nash and Xander and there and so underdeveloped! But the story itself was amazing! Gripping. It was hard to put down from beginning to end.

I really like this book and the series overall, and I bought it to complete the set. The content is excellent and continues the story well. Unfortunately, the physical condition on arrival was disappointing. The book had visible wear, including bent edges and corner damage. It seems it was shipped without adequate protection, which affected the condition it arrived in.

The Brothers Hawthorne is a fantastic read! Engaging and well-written, I couldn't put it down. The quick and easy narrative style made for an enjoyable experience, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment. While the content was impeccable, some pages arrived bent and folded. Fortunately, they were easy to fix, and there were no tears. Despite the minor shipping hiccup, the overall quality of the book and the captivating storyline make it a worthwhile addition to any bookshelf. Looking forward to more from this author!

Reader’s Notes: – this is book 4 of a series and must be read in order (though you could just read the first 3 books of the series and be fine counting it as ‘complete’) *this book connects the original trilogy to the spin-off series (The Grandest Game) – this is told from Grayson & Jameson’s points of view (with the epilogue told from a third point of view) -there are about 18 curse or not nice words used -it is insinuated that characters slept together (not said to be during the events of the story) -it is mentioned that someone’s parent killed themselves when they were very little (past event) -there are a few innuendo remarks -a character inappropriately touches another without consent -it is mentioned that a character is in only a bra & skirt slip for a brief amount of time (not for any sexual reason – the dress could have been hazardous to keep on while the character continued the path they were on) Review: It’s been a bit since I’ve read the first 3 books of this series, but I found it to be pretty easy to dive back in with these characters! It was a lot of fun to get more from Jameson & Grayson’s points of view, going back and forth between their two storylines in this book. (They start off together and then have to separate in order to follow/solve their own goals/issues.) I enjoyed both aspects of their very different stories and loved getting to see all the Hawthornes & Avery again! It was also fun to see the different subterfuge & puzzle solving tactics both boys had to use to achieve their own goals. With how this book ended, I’m very curious to see how The Grandest Game series is! Though I’ll probably check out the other two books left in this series first to get some more time with this set of characters! Summary: Grayson grew up expecting to be the Hawthorne heir, until his grandfather threw their family for a loop by inviting Avery to claim it all. Now Grayson will do anything to keep Avery’s position safe, even if it means burying the real reason why no one can find his own father and lying to his half-sisters… Jameson never knew who his father was, but finds himself approached by him with an impossible request: gain entrance to an exclusive gambling club and win the prize in their game. But nothing is more worth the effort than defeating the impossible.

I was excited for this release and I was not disappointed! I gave this new installment of The Inheritance Games 5 stars after reading it on my Kindle. I really enjoyed the first three books in this series, with Grayson and Jameson being the most intriguing to me in their complexity. These two brothers are the closest in age between all four brothers and opposite in their mannerisms. I loved how we got a deeper insight into both Grayson and Jameson not only through their current escapades but also through flashbacks to learning moments with their grandfather about love, family and loyalty. Each of their stories kept me hooked and flipping pages as fast as I could. Grayson had some cracks in his stoic exterior while Jameson thought twice before leaping - figuratively and literally. I am also glad the focus wasn't on Avery - I had plenty of her in the first three books. I will definitely be pre-ordering the next involvement - The Grandest Game - ahead of its announced June 2024 release.

This is my absolute favorite book of the series! I'm not a rereader very often, but I kept going back to this one...I read it at least 4 times in the first month! Jameson's story was wonderful, but Grayson and his sisters had me hooked! So wonderful to see the character growth that both of these brothers went through over the course of this book, as well as the little snippets of their childhood that we were treated to in between. Definitely helped to understand why they think of themselves and the world the way they do. And the secret revealed at the end has me wanting more information! If you've read the first 3 books and loved the Hawthorne brothers as much as I do, definitely pick this one up!

My niece liked it, so, so. It talked too much about her least fav ship and not enough about the main characters from the previous novels. I have gotten her the rest of the series which she loved… so far I’m missing Glorious Rivals and the one that will be released shortly.

What a wonderful mess of twists, turns, vulnerabilities and more. This story is artfully woven into an addictive adventure as each of the key players discover something more about themselves. Another great story. I look forward to the next ones.
