Heller Excel Legend Hoof Rasp

Much nicer than the red tang. I only trim my one horse but I’m only on my second one since January and she’s on a 1-2 week trim cycle. I tried a red tang and it didn’t stay sharp as long and was harder to use.

This is the nicest rasp I have ever used. It makes trimming so much easier. I am excited to see how it lasts compared to the cheaper rasps I've tried, but in terms of performance there is no comparison.Update 2/23/23: I've gotten over twice the use out of this that I would a cheaper model. Money well spent and I have re-ordered.

This is a very sharp rasp, great for medium hard hooves. My horse is barefoot and has a medium-hard to hard hoof wall and fairly tough soles. This rasp easily bites through it, be careful not to take to much off! Because it is so sharp, it can be hard to start the foot, so start with light pressure and add more pressure has the hoof evens out. Easy to bevel the hoof wall with one hand on the rasp and the file side is also sharp and leaves a smooth finish. Definitely worth the money, don't make your life hard by using a full rasp.

Original review: purchased may 15. Great rasp. I trim my four horses myself so I definitely don’t do a lot but I do one horse every other week. It is now September 24 and today the rasp was pretty dull and not really usable for me. That might give you an idea of how long it will last. It was amazing while it lasted and is why I’m buying another one right now…..I recommend getting a handle for it and definitely wear gloves!Edit: Removing a star.... as stated in my original review...I've been using this rasp for a while now and I recently bought a new one because nothing lasts forever. This new one is just garbage. It doesn't work, the fine side, I can't even use and I don't know what the change was but something's wrong with this recent one I got unfortunately. The course side, although somewhat usable, just isn't like all of my previous ones. Total bummer. Just bought another version of this so we shall see.

It’s a good rasp but I’m up set it did not come with the handle 😖I looked in the description and I did not see the handle so I thought it would’ve came with it because they have it in the picture False advertising. I think it’s screwed up. I think they need to take the handle out of the picture so you don’t think you’re getting a green handle. I really like the green handle. I want the green handle. Dammit don’t buy this product if you want the handle.
