Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the body of this guitar? Is this true hollow body guitar or a semi hollow body guitar?

Body is around 18x21x5.5 from back of guitar to top of bridge. Total length is around 41". It is a hollow body.

real veneer or photo finish top?

I believe it's real veneer. I was not disappointed.

Does it play fairly well acoustically?

Yes indeed, this guitar plays loud enough for personal use. Ironically, I just picked it up and played it for my wife yesterday who mentioned how nice it sounds. Admittedly, it is a little large being a "orchestra guitar" ala 1950's style (so cool!) but that is what gives it a little more volume. Could you play it for a group of people, probably not, but for yourself or one person it would be fine. Play on!

although the pictures don't a pickguard, i am assuming it doesn't come with one, anyone ever add a pickguard?

If you are handy with hand tools, you should be able to add a pickguard to the instrument.
