Want a DASH-CAM? Buy a GoPro Hero 4 Silver.
This GoPro is expensive and worth every penny. I bought this camera to use as a dash cam and I'm blown away by its capabilities. The GoPro can be used for any purpose one can imagine and there are mounts for every purpose as well. Many of the excellent YouTube videos are produced by a GoPro. The mechanical engineering of this piece is exceptional and extends to the mounts included with the original purchase. There are more settings at this time than I can remember but the simple basic settings and the defaults produce excellent, sharp, clear and colorful videos of whatever the camera is aimed at. Night photos are also excellent. I purchased the GoPro 4 Silver because it has the viewing screen at the back which makes it simple to aim the camera perfectly to get the best views of the road traveled. This rear screen is especially nice when initially setting up the camera on a permanent adhesive mount most often stuck to the front window in the center to one side of the rear view mirror. The rear screen makes it easy to mount the adhesive in the perfect position on the first try. I spent a few days getting up the courage to finally mount the GoPro PERMANENTLY ON MY FRONT WINDSHIELD using the very permanent 3M mount (supposedly easily removed by heating it up first). I've never mounted anything permanently to my front windshield and even had a hard time adding cup holders to a car that didn't come with them. My fear was unfounded because the rear screen made it easy as pie to position and aim the camera and mark the exact spot that gave me the best view of the road in front, keeping in mind I'd have to remove the camera whenever I left the car. No problem here. The GoPro 4 Black is an extra $100 for a few more setting details but then you have to buy a separate rear LCD screen for another $100 or so if you want the same capability for ease of installation if you want to use your GoPro as a Dash Cam. I picked the GoPro Silver from the beginning because I called the company and asked them which camera they recommended for use as a Dash Cam. When I called I knew NOTHING about dash cams or about GoPros. When the GoPro arrived I was unable to "unbox" the camera until I read the instructions and watched an instructional video on YouTube, titled "unboxing your new GoPro - for beginners". I say this to emphasize that this was my first experience with a Dash Cam. I never saw a GoPro up close until mine arrived. Without instructions I'd still have the GoPro boxed up. The attachments and means of attaching the GoPro were different from anything I was familiar with but it all makes perfect sense and ends up easier than most familiar attachments once you see it for the first time. I decided to go with this most expensive Dash Cam (except for the GoPro Hero 4 Black) because I never saw a bad video taken with a GoPro. I'm thrilled I made this decision because everything about the GoPro is exceptional. The GoPro Hero 4 Silver camera has some of the best engineering I've seen on any electronics product I've purchased over many years, including digital cameras and computers. The quality of materials is also superior. With all the exceptional features and capabilities, this camera is easy to set up and use. It is a simple camera and it does what it claims to do and does it exceptionally well. Once I got myself to take the step of a permanent front windshield mounting, I was set up and ready to go. All I need to do is press the button to start the video and remember to remove the camera once I've arrived at my destination. The quick mounts and disconnects make this simple. The GoPro is suggested as a Dash Cam only for users who already own one because there are Dash Cams selling for $29.95, making the GoPro 10x as expensive. This is bad advice! Once a person buys a GoPro it's only a matter of time before other uses for this camera show up. The GoPro is so exceptional it can be easily used to memorialize any activity one is accustomed to performing. The GoPro photos and videos are so excellent a person is encouraged to find new uses for the GoPro all the time. All that's necessary is the purchase of a specialized mount. Many mounts can be used for multiple purposes. For instance, I may want to mount my GoPro on a headrest. I found the mount used to attach a GoPro to one's head, hat or helmet is perfect for attaching to my headrest. This is a great place to mount a camera to watch out the rear window if one wants full coverage. I'm thinking of buying a second GoPro for this, but first I have to save up many pennies. This is what happens when one has the capability to take excellent quality videos and photos with little effort. If you are thinking of buying your first Dash Cam, I suggest going with the best. Spend the money and buy a GoPro. You will be inspired to find many other uses for this marvelous little camera once you see how easy it is to use to take perfect photos and videos.

For a Casual User, this HERO4 Silver Rocks! Great Camera & Video Quality.
While I've always wanted a GoPro, I've never used one or even played around with one until purchasing (justifying the purchase)this GoPro HERO4 Silver. I am a casual user. I cannot talk/compare in 4k or that kind of description/comparison. My review is intended for the casual user who wants a waterproof action camera that is easy to use without having to read a thick instruction manual. I chose the Silver 4 because of the 12mp still images, the video quality & the Touchscreen LCD back. I like the LCD back because that is what I'm familiar with using my digital camera. The touchscreen back is not super sensitive & I have to press hard (through the case) for the screen to respond. Just remember that the display will lock if left untouched, so you will have to go through the unlock procedure again if you want to change from camera to video or access the screen options (touch top middle of screen & slide finger down - that will get you to the unlock feature, which is a slide down & hold feature). Unfortunately, my digital camera is not waterproof, so I decided that a small, waterproof/water resistant camera should be added to my collection. Since I was about to embark on a trip that involved ziplining, rafting, parasailing & a rainforest, I decided that a GoPro would be an ideal camera. The HERO4 Silver is a great little camera. I am still not completely using all of its features - the remote being the next item on my "to-learn" list - but the features I used - camera & video - produced beautiful, clear pictures & video. I used the clip to place the GoPro on both my zipline helmets & rafting helmet, and I used a homemade modified strap to wrap around my hand while parasailing. On all, since I wasn't submerging in water below 10', I used the camera housing that allowed for Touchscreen use. Camera battery lasted about 1-1/2 hours because of using the LCD screen off and on. As stated earlier, I still have to get use to using the remote app. I chose not to with my last adventure because I didn't want to carry my phone on a zip line, a white water raft or while parasailing. I will update this review as I go, but I'm very happy with the camera & video quality of the HERO4 Silver. Downloads to my tablet & computer were simple and no special software is required to view since the files are mp4. Overall, the HERO4 Silver is pretty easy to understand & use - even for those who are not photography experts.

Works very well so far and in great condition
My start with a Gopro camera started with the original over 12 years ago. At that time, the unique features were the small size, ability to mount almost anywhere, and the extreme wide angle. The video quality of that first generation camera was very poor and the super wide angle was the only good thing about it. Of course, Gopro has come a long way since then and they are still on top when it comes to action cameras. The next Gopro I bought was the 2014 Hero basic model. For me, that camera worked great even with the internal battery and the video quality was very good and sharp. I unfortunately got it wet about 3 years ago and couldn't bring it back to life. I bought a few Apeman A80 cameras. They are very dependable for a cheap price, but you will not get a wide angle whatsoever with that camera even with the 170 degree setting. Also the video quality up close is decent but overall is poor compared to a Gopro. So finally my review of the Gopro Hero 4 Silver. It is an amazing little camera with wide sharp video and very good realistic color saturation. Just what I needed and a big upgrade from the Apeman. The LCD screen on the back works flawlessly and the quick capture function means I can just tap one button to record and and then tap off again, perfect while making my fishing videos. Since the camera is on a stable mount I don't have to worry about stabilization which this camera doesn't have, the video is smooth without any shakiness. Finally if I were selfish and was planning on buying another Gopro Hero 4 Silver, I might not mention Southtown Camera, who sent me a camera in great shape that I have confidence in. Thanks to them. You will not be sorry in 2020 if you buy this camera over all the Apemans and Akasos with limited field of view and inferior video quality. Great little camera.

Awesome Camera!
Once you figure out how to use this camera, it works great! I like being able to see what I'm shooting so opted for the Hero4 Silver with the touch-screen. The controls are very conveniently accessed on it too. The ability to turn off the beeps and blinking red lights is a big plus. The mic is VERY susceptible to wind noise however, so if you're shooting outside and sound is important you'll need a windsock. (I hand-held all my shots without the case.) My first camera had issues with the notorious background "helicopter" thumping sound when wi-fi was incorporated but the GoPro support team was responsive, efficient and polite so I had a replacement in no time. I've not tested this camera for underwater use as I have no need. I took this camera to China for a month and it worked like a champ. 1,200 video clips! I had three batteries with me and 3 micro SD cards. The cards would hold almost 4 hours of recording but the batteries only last 1 1/2 hours. It was never a problem though as the batteries popped in and out with ease and charged very quickly with the dual battery charger. This tiny camera slips into a pocket quite easily but its squarish design makes it protrude a bit. The slight delay in turning the camera on and off takes a little getting used to but usually wasn't a problem. Since I use a Mac, I pulled the SD card out when full and used a card reader to transfer the files to my hard drive. It was a bit confusing at first since the MP4 videos were intermixed with the Windows files all in the same folder. But, sorting the files by "Kind" quickly separated the files into JPGs, MP4s and Windows files that made it easy to select and copy them to my computer. The video quality was outstanding.

A great product once you use it for what it is intended
Many of the reviews and first impressions I read about this camera were either neutral or negative. After having this camera for a while, I can see why. For stills shots is kind of inept. The phone in your pocket likely outdoes GP4 in terms of noise, image quality, dynamic range, etc. If you use it for night-time time lapse you'll be sorely disappointed. However, once you make the mental leap that these are not the main use cases for this camera you begin to understand why GoPro made the design decisions it did. If you are looking for walk-about camera: your phone or a point-and-shoot will do the job better than the GP4. If you want night time time lapses, get an SLR or mirrorless camera, with apo/ed glass and a timer. However, if what you want or need is a rugged, waterproof action camera, this is where the GP4 shines. That is the bread and butter of this camera. Fixed focal length, fish-eye lens and a barrage of attachments (which, btw, can be gotten very inexpensive from generic brands and do not recommend splurging on GoPro original gear) makes this the go to camera for all your action needs. Pros: * Tough with case * Waterproof to 40M with case * Included touchscreen LCD (Silver) * 1080p60 for super crisp and amazing video * Burst Shutter mode @ 2.7K resolution * Tons of compatible attachments Cons: * WiFi is a battery vampire. Just turn it off and keep it off. * Night-time performance is dismal -- don't let the fanbois tell you otherwise. * Even w/o WiFi battery life is exceptionally short. Get at least an extra 2 batteries (Wasabi Generic have really good reviews for 1/2 the price of GP original) * GoPro studio is incredibly limited in functionality and very cumbersome UI. * Doesn't come with tripod compatible mount out-of-the-box, which is unacceptable this day and age Neutral: * 4K video is a SD-card-space-hog, resource-intensive gimmick. 99.9% of TVs and computer monitors don't support it. Don't bother. * Mobile app need is moot with the Silver version. * You'll need Premiere or Final Cut if you want to do anything beyond super basic video manipulation. Overall rating: 3.5/5 (rounded up to 4). Would I recommend it to a friend? I guess it pretty much hinges on what the use case it as explained above.

Best Action Sports camera I've purchased. Happy!
I love this Action Camera and it definitely lives up to the hype. I've played around with other cameras like a dash cam for the car or the Contour Action camera. After buying the less expensive ones I decided to just bite the bullet and pay the extra money to hopefully be satisfied with the product, and Amazons bundle price did just that. A GoPro Hero4 with memory card, 2 extra Wasabi batteries and a head mount for $400 is quite an amazing deal. The Camera: The size of this thing is tiny. For a first owner/GoPro'er Im amazed at the types of places I can put this camera for the perfect picture. That leads me to the mounts. I'm already looking at purchasing an aftermarket parts kit filled with all the extra goodies like the gorilla stand, open framed enclosure, GoPro floaty device and etc. I would recommend looking into one of these inexpensive kits with all the extra goodies when your buying your Gopro. Picture quality is very nice, and I'm actually learning how to use my DSLR by messing with some of the settings on the Gopro. I really enjoy the burst modes of pictures to get the perfect action shot with AMAZING I'mage quality. Attached is a picture I took waiting for a hummingbird to appear. Just one click of the button from my iPod touch and it triggers the camera into taking 30 1080 resolution shots in 1 second! If your worried about spending too much on a camera, don't! Ive played with this camera every day so far since receiving it in the mail. Also if your stuck between the Silver and the Black, although I don't own the black, I don't know where I would be without the LCD screen on the back of the silver. It really makes setting up your camera super simple when your in a hurry and you won't have to deal with Wifi/Bluetooth connecting it to your phone to see what your camera is looking at.

I Wish I Had 5 More GoPros!
I purchased the GoPro HERO4 Silver for my wedding videography business at the beginning of the wedding season. I was reluctant, because I had heard mixed reviews and I wasn't sure how it would fit into my business necessarily. I decided to give it a chance, and it was one of the best business decisions I've ever made! This camera is an absolute blast, and something that I've recommended time and time again to friends and family. We use several HD cameras while shooting wedding footage, and I was concerned about the quality of the GoPro not stacking up.. I was pleasantly surprised, and to be honest blown away by the quality of this compact camera! We've had a great time with it, and utilize it for the difficult shots! We've also recently started handing off the GoPro to members of the wedding party to take on the dance floor to capture some dancing footage! We would have NEVER dreamed of handing off our equipment, but the GoPro is so indestructible we feel confident we can share it! Our clients love that we've started doing this, because it adds a great perspective and we love that clients feel comfortable using the camera! It's so user friendly, we never have to explain it to anyone! They generally just have a sense of how to use it right away! I've used the GoPro on several hikes, kayaking, and on various adventures! I'm so impressed by this company, and I would love to have 5 more GoPros! I would recommend this to parents wanting to start their kids off with a great / fun camera, serious adventurous looking for a camera that is up for the challenge, photographers, videographers, filmmakers! Basically, anyone looking for a great investment and something that will hold up! It's a tiny camera, but incredible power! So impressed!

Best Value of the Hero 4's. Doing Your Research/Homework = Smoother Camera Operations
Decided on the Hero 4 Silver based on not really having the need to shoot/view in 4k and the built-in rear lcd display helps a lot with aiming. I jumped on the Cyber Monday deal with Amazon's GoPro Hero 4 Silver bundle. I'm really impressed with the photo/video quality of the Hero 4 Silver! In looking at the evolution of the GoPro Hero's previous versions, I'm glad I waited for all the technology upgrades that the Hero 4 Silver has. It takes some time to learns all the camera's functions, so be patient. Before buying, I spent a good amount of time doing my research on the operation features, faq's, common issues/problems, and the most beneficial GoPro accessories. Doing your homework really would seem to answer/solve a lot of common issues that most people have encountered. An issue that I came across with the GoPro's wifi feature had trouble connecting to a smartphone/tablet via GoPro app. This was mainly due to the smartphone/tablet already connected to a different wifi signal, so the device could not also connect to the GoPro's wifi signal. So just be sure your smartphone/tablet with the GoPro app is disconnected/forgotten any previous wifi signal before connecting to the GoPro's wifi signal. Before purchasing a GoPro, realize that you will need to purchase several additional GoPro accessories to get the most out of your camera. But that doesn't mean you need to buy every single accessory on the market. Slowly build up your accessory collection, only initially purchase the accessories that you will get the most use out of and are best suited for your particular applications. For me, I bought an aluminum GoPro adjustable telescoping pole, anti-fog inserts, aftermarket extra batteries with charger (everyone should buy this along with the camera!), and a red lens filter at the same time I bought the camera for a scuba trip to the Caribbean. Also realize that your accessories don't all have to be GoPro brand. There are hundreds of GoPro accessory companies, take your time to do a little research and read some reviews. Sometimes the aftermarket accessories outperform the OEM ones. I've had my camera since December 2014 and have not encountered a single technical issue that some have stated they have encountered. The GoPro firmware update released in February 2015 added Burst Mode / Timelapse functions, which are pretty cool. GoPro also stated that the updates also fixed several bugs/issues that people were experiencing. So just like a smartphone or tablet, make sure you keep your camera updated with the latest firmware offered. I don't own a laptop, so utilizing the GoPro Studio editing software is out of the question while on the go. To work around this issue, I read some articles about user using the Apple iMovie app on an Apple device to make movies. I won an iPad Mini from an message forum that I'm a member of, so I decided to go that route. This required me to purchase the Apple Lightning to SD Card Reader device. So I shoot my video, take out the microSD card from my camera, slide it into the SD Card adapter that came with the microSD card, then insert it into the Apple Lightning to SD Card Reader device, and finally plug the device into my iPad Mini. Within seconds, the videos on the card will automatically be recognized and you choose which ones you want to upload. Once that is complete, you open the iMovie app, choose the order of the videos, clip/snip/shorten the videos, and do other editing functions. While this method doesn't have all the features that the GoPro Studio editing software offers, this a great on-the-go way to compile your videos, perform some basic editing, produce complete movies, and have the ability to upload the movies to Facebook, YouTube, etc. when the iPad mini is connected to the Internet via wifi. I'm using the GoPro Hero 4 Silver as an excuse to further my traveling experiences. I look forward to furthering my recent first-time experience in SCUBA Diving, traveling to Norway to see The Northern Lights, and heading to South Africa to cage dive with the Great White Sharks! I definitely recommend the GoPro Hero 4 Silver!!!

Very fast shipping
Came within a day after ordering even though shipping says 5 days. Was very pleased with it. Works amazing and is an awesome camera. Have experimented with it under water and so far the pics are super clear. The only thing that bothers me is it doesn't have zoom but it's great for landscapes and underwater shots.
