Buy Masala: Indian Cooking for Modern Living 1 by Basu, Mallika (ISBN: 9781408886885) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Great book! - Used this book for the last month as part of a cookbook book club, so I have explored several recipes. I have loved the flavours and the straightforward methods delivering some lovely dishes. The salmon curry (finished in the oven) I have made twice and is one of the best fish curries I have made. The roasting of a whole cauliflower in nutty curry sauce was a great dish with a bit of drama to being to the table, it looks wonderful. There are recipes for making snacks without the deep fat frying which I appreciate, I am not a fan of deep fat! Some great easy chutneys to go with them too. Sections on ingredients are helpful and alternatives for some more unusual ones are welcome. This weekend I am trying some of the sweet recipes, if they are as good as the savoury I will have a happy household. Review: Already planning an Indian feast... - What a wonderful book. Beautiful photgraphy. Really simple, easy to follow recipes. I've never really tried Indian cookery at home before because it has always seemed so complicated: hundreds of spices, lots of ingredients and so time-consuming! But I saw one of Mallika's recipes from this book in the Times last weekend and had to try it out. It was so easy and SO delicious that I just knew I had to get the book and it doesn't disappoint. Absolutely fantastic. I am already planning a feast for friends to show off my new mastery of indian home-cooking!

Simple yet fabulous
Absolutely love this book. The recipes are so unfussy given how delicious the dishes are and I really like the variations that you can use to tailor the meal depending on what else you're making. I'm mostly veggie these days and there is a lot in here. Most recently I made the khichdi and baghare baingan (both vegan friendly) and can't wait to try the snacks. The food photos are beautiful too :)

Terrific - great choice for an Indian cookery book
Really enjoying this new addition to the cookery book shelf. There are lots of great recipes, written in a fun and engaging way and you really feel the author's voice and sense of humour. One of my favourite things about the book is that it makes cooking Indian food really approachable - I love the way she says not to worry if you're short of an ingredient- just get on with it and enjoy.

Great recipes
Only tried one chicken recipe so far which is why I have given it 4. Maybe 5 after a few more dishes
